Why do we say something is out of whack? What is a whack?

When I was a kid, me mum would send me down to da corner store wiv' a dollar, and I'd come back wiv' five pounds o' potatoes, two loaves o' bread, three pints o' milk, a pound o' cheese, a packet o' tea, an' 'alf a dozen eggs.
Yer can't do that now...too many bloody security cameras. |

oh, before I forget.. (this may a phrase I've become wholly too reliant on, therefore, becoming overused).
Truth is, I entirely forgot, and it wasn't until the point that I actually reminded myself, accidently, mind you, that this post came into fruition. So... Query for BadNick (and ring, too, possibly): Have you noticed that if you are organizing your photobucket account, (assuming you've done this at all) and you move a few photos into a newly-created folder to better simplify and "tag" things appropriately, does their previous appearances elsewhere shared (ie image links) disappear? |
Jet, I hope this forgetfullness bodes well for your future memory. Since your pattern is about the opposite of what I went through from when I was your age until now...that's many many years...perhaps you'll grow older with a great memory. I went from a good memory to a selective memory and now adays it sometimes seems I can't select when to remember what or if I even ever knew what I was supposed to remember.
Also Jet, you hit a raw nerve in my photo organization plans that pisses me off ever since I discovered it!!!! YES! the stupid photobucket setup will totally lose previous links to the image if you change the folder it's in for whatever reason...and as you mentioned, getting more organized is a good reason someone might want to reorganize folders as they grow and accumulate various ideas, concepts, trash. So how stupid is that?....pretty stupid since even the most rudimentary file manager will maintain links to file locations. The other possibility is that photobucket actually has a way to maintain such linkage and we just don't know about it yet. If I don't forget I'll look into this later. PS: for better or worse (like marriage, huh?) I just thought of a potential partial organizational option. When you move a pic to a new folder to better organize it, also keep the original pic and its name and location as is, and just copy another copy of it into the new folder. But this uses up storage space on photobucket, and space is money...I already ran out of free storage and upgraded to a paid Pro account so now I have unlimited space of which I've only used 593 MB and my account bandwidth used is 2.3 GB...for about the last five minutes I've been looking at my various pb stats in different ways they have available, interesting. In case you want another something notably forgettable, check this out: Both of these reflect my pb account stats at this moment, the top one includes another car forum I frequent while the bottom one excludes it http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...4/pbwithsf.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...bwithoutsf.jpg |
Hows the comparo betwixt Longest and that other thread going?
|
Zook, it looks like we're now at a 1294 post deficit. I'm impressed that number is consistently going down!

Nick:
Thanks for the detailed response. I've had my photobucket account for nearing three years now, but I've delayed my uploading influx of photos within my portfolio because I never wanted to become popular enough to have to buy more bandwidth or storage space. It's held steadily under ~50MB for a while now, but the one caveat to not using it as much is that I've recently learned if you do not use your account for a period of 90 days or more, it will automatically be deleted. That's a right bummer, and it doesn't get any better because flickr has the same policy. But, if you'd like to know, I used to use the TinyPic service a while ago whenever I had a small and forgettable enough photo file that I had wanted to hotlink for optimal viewing ease. I looked back into it just recently, and decided, 'what the hey, let's get organized', and signed up for an account. The website seems to be a subsidiary of the Photobucket people, so no lewd or crude uploads are allowed, but from what I gather in my daily 5-minutes of usage, it seems to have no cap whatsoever in terms of bandwidth or storage at the moment. Of course, that is subject to change if it becomes increasingly popular enough to warrant an addendum to their policies, though seeing how it's unlimited, I'll try to use it to its fullest capacity, as allowed. The reason why I mention it is not because I think it is superior to photbucket; (I think they're virtually the same entity and offer the same service, but maybe to two different segments of the internet population) it's because I'm using it to better organize my photos in folders, finally, seeing as I can't move any of the ones in my other account without creating holes and voids randomly throughout my participation here. I guess I just wanted to tell you that I'll be leaving my photobucket without folders for the time being (it only has around 7 pages worth of image files), while my new tinypic account will bear most of the brunt of my topic-worthy pictures, by classifying them into 8 different folders I have at the moment, ranging from an 'animals only' folder, to a 'Santa suit' only folder. The possibilities are endless. Zooks: I don't have the chart-making skills I once used to possess, nor the free time to outlay (still not sure if I made this word up) the key dates of progression. Right now: The Longest Thread Ever! = 20736 That other stupid thread, which is still very a stupid, yet popular, obstacle toward our ultimate goal: WA = 22029 We're within bow-and-arrow distance now. Also, we have a good incentive to pick up the pace as our three-year anniversary is this week, on the 10th. We need to expand exponentially to the tune of about 435+ posts per day in order to catch up. |
okay
one more for the pile. I have 50 pages of photobucket images(no folders) Just lots of notes on various scraps of paper. (junk-mail...etc.) |
I have way too many images that have yet to be shared, or even looked at twice by me, it's not even remotely chuckle-worthy.
I'm looking to find a better service than photobucket (funny stolen image-hosting) or flickr (original hand-camera taken image-hosting) to better appease my perfectionist ways of stating who and where the author of said image can be located. Tumblr kind of presents an easy-solution to blogging, but it is a pain in that patoot to navigate through page after page of only 10 images, and searching is virtually outlawed in it's service as no one even tries to tag their uploads with "umbrella" or "Marisa Miller" or "blowing bubbles". Give me a description so I can find it again, at least! |
I'll add another quick one.
Jet, thanks for the photo tips. I have seen a lot of tinypics around so I'll investigate further. To get over the lewd and rude barrier, or what pb's interpretation of that might be, I also have a flikr account which seems to allow "anything goes" as long as you mark it "private". I have this pic in flikr but it would be deleted by photobucket ...pic removed to avoid moderator wrath |
Yeah, I kind of instituted on myself (and, iherently-unspoken onto you guys as well, sorry) a "no nudity clause" in the Longest Thread Ever.
Not that I don't dig on it, but it's just I'm fearful that one day a random modulator moderating things in check will open up the thread and say, "well, there's at least one instance of tits in here; there's bound to be more!" and swiftly smacks on the title of the thread an unsightly [NSFW] tag. That fear alone keeps my fervent detail to share the [hide] tags alive. |
ahh, good point. I will comply with that.
When I don't see my name as the last poster in this thread, I'm attracted like a moth to a flame. |
I wonder, I wonder.. what to do, do, do?
It seems I have forgotten one of the loveliest sirens I happened to afix my eyes towards just the other day: she was on the TV, and I now have got basic cable again after moving back stateside, and ... I forgot to write her name down. (maybe she didn't have a name that I was aware of?) I keep alot of thoughts and backlogs in my head because for some odd reason, I think spacing out my sharing, as if it were serendipitous timing, will attract more followers. It hasn't worked so far. |
Morning has broken...
I know the numbers... I just wanted to see a graph..... Fine, then, how about a pic of one, then.... then: http://www.jir.com/graph_contest/OneGraph.jpg |

Among many interesting ones, I always liked that classic one of Napoleon's invasion of Russia: "...one of the all-time classics of information graphics. It’s exceedingly complex, with six different variables, but maintains a relatively simple look and interpretation. Étienne-Jules Marey once said this of the graph, “[it] defies the pen of the historian in its brutal eloquence.” The graph was created by Charles Joseph Minard to show Napoleon’s invasion of, and retreat from, Russia. The width of the bar shows the number of troops under Napoleon’s command. when he first crosses the River Niemen, Napoleon has 422,000 troops. By the time he reaches Moscow, he has only 100,000. Then, he loses another 90% of his men on the trek back to the River Niemen. He finishes with just 10,000 men. Minard’s graph also shows temperature, location, direction of travel, and distance traveled." http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...eon-graph2.jpg |
