Which is stronger? Maximum or Ultra?
So my mother gets these 2 cans of hairspray. One for me, one for her. One dubbed "Maximum Hold" and the other dubbed "Ultra Hold" and we're trying to figure out which one is the stronger hold of the two. She wants the least strongest because she doesn't need it that strong. I could care less I just like to have something to hold my spikey hair up. Anyway I thought it'd make an interesting poll so whaddya think people?!
Lets hear your answers! I imagine the ladies will be most helpful..either that or the guys who's hair demands a strong hold. Ya know like the kick ass dudes who sport mohawks. They know their shit too. Asta!! |
I like Garnier Maximum hold. Its the only thing that works to keep my hair curled.
|
These are Equate. Umm the cheap kind. I believe we've decided. She wants "volume and lift" so I get "hold and shine" umm whatever I'm still curious as to what the difference here is. So continue the debate.

Here is what it should be however it is probably the other way around.
Maximum hold shold be the highest level of hold since it is called maximum which implies the top level of hold - none higher. Ultra is probably more though. |
Get some ICE Spiker Wicked Grip Styling Glue. That shit works like a charm. I have long hair now, and I can still spike it with that stuff if I wanted to.
|
Maximum is "the most possible" while ultra means "beyond" and therefore has the connotation of being even more powerful than the maximum.
You and your mom should spike up the hairs and do a 24 hour test. Post pics here. |
Ultra Maximum Hold
|
good grief K-Wise. marketing names have a hold on your head.
now your hair... dunno how much hold your getting. perhaps you & your mom should do a test? ya both both use the the same hair spray for 3 days. then use the other for 3 days. compare your notes & please get back to us with your conclusions!! inquiring minds want to know~! oh gawds this could be a long week of anticipation awaiting your results. |
just by the words "ultra" versus "maximum" I would go with ultra. The word itself means a lot more to me than maximum.
Hope that helps. :P |

Probably the same but I gotta say Ultra, but what do I know about hair spray, havn;t hair over a inch long in like 8 years :hmm:
|
You should try comparing the amounts of the various chemicals in the actual products (they should be about the same, i am assuming - just like when comparing various listerine mouthwashes). I assume the one with more "percentages" is gonna be stronger?
|
I don't use hair spray, but if i was going to judge them by just the words so carefully picked by the marketers - i would pick ultra.
The kick ass dudes who don mohawks as their hairstyle of choice use gelatine, same stuff you might use for cooking. Basically what you do is boil some water and add to the powdered gelatine half the reccommended water, place the stash in the freezer as it stinks when it goes off. Then when you want to do your hair just get a couple of tablespoons out and microwave it, apply, and presto.. rock hard hair. |
^ I NEVER knew that! Fuckin awesome man!
Asta!! |
did one cost more than the other?
I think its so cute you use hair spray hehehehe |
I have to! :p Otherwise my hair won't stay up
Asta!! :suave: |
Whichever you choose, stay away from the "Extra Medium"
|
^ I'll keep that in mind

Words mean things. Maximum means the most possible. Ultra doesn't exceed that, hence, if there is any truth in advertising, Maximum strength is as strong as it gets. Of course, this branding was probably dreampt up by someone who regularly uses the phrase "very unique", so all bets are off.

ultra means like best of the best but maxiumum implies it's hold is at the top of the list, so i went with maximum just cuz i really dunno. :) i dont use hairspray
