For those non-Aussies - today is our "national" day - it commemorates the landing of the First Fleet in Sydney in 1788 - basically the start of English Australia.

We have just got home from a Barbie at a mates place - a few quiet beers, fried meat stuff and pavlovas for dessert :)

How did you spend our national day?

Is anyone else non-plussed by Bernard Fanning getting #1 over Wolfmother in the JJJ Hottest One Hundred...

And what was with all that flag burning? Didn't catch the news with sound on yet.

That was during an aboriginal protest.

i spent most of the day havin sex with my girlfriend...

it was definately one of the best Australia Days i've ever had.

Congrats on Aussy day. I'll have a bbq and toast you guys tonight. You guys are like our (America's) cool cousin.

Wouldn't have picked that one, but I guess at least Bernard Fanning is half original. Didn't listen to it, but after reading the list in the Courier Mail today, I kinda got the jist at no. 47.

willravel always has something meaningful to say...but that got me thinking, and when you look at it we really are cousins with those damn yanks...

so why dont we drum up some support to make july the 4th a public holiday too. enough people get on the bandwagon, and we'll be a force to be rekoned with.


i still havent heard a thing about the flag burning incident, although i heard about some laws being passed to make it illegal to burn the flag..but does that mean its illegal if u are an australian citizen and u burn the flag? or does it relate to anyone in general in australia? and does it have jusrisdiction on ppl overseas that burn the aussie flag, expats and foreigners alike?

anyone have any idea? i only got a glimpse of the news the last few days.

I read today that Bronwyn Bishop will try to get the action deemed illegal but Howard says he won't support it. He says it's freedom of expression!

We're more like siblings. We have direct common liniage with the UK. Of course you're still a commonwealth. When are you guys going to get your independance, anyway?

I'm cool with it myself. I'm not particularly a fan of jeopardising the judicial, legislative and executive institutions in a changeover.
