Bigger, Longer, Uncut - Uncensored on TV?
From the Comdey Central website
"South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut Can you keep a secret from the FCC? On Oct 23, we're showing South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut. And we're not bleeping a *#$@ing thing! That's right, the movie will be airing in all its bloody, foul-mouthed, hilarious glory -- so save the date!" How can they do that? Just about every offensive word known to man is in the movie! (And to clarify, I am not offended, I'm a big SP fan. I am just perplexed on how they can get away with the language on TV) |
I was under the impression that after a certain time (12AM?), certain channels can show movies that have swearing. Comedy Central showed Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back last weekend completely uncensored at 1AM. I think there's some kind of loophole that allows it.

i want to say that cable can actually say what they want. it's just that nobody has taken that step yet and doesn't want major advertisers to, possibly, pull their money because they don't like what's being shown on tv. i don't remember where i read that, but i'm sure i did. who knows? it is kinda late :)
|
you're correct radioguy. Cable companies have no restrictions on them as far as what they air. The only thing they have to consider is their sponsors. i.e. if Lifetime started running hardcore pornos, it's pretty likely that they'd lose a lot of advertisers ;)
|
yes, and cable companies would stop carrying their channels
|
There's a cable company in Canada (not sure if its in the US too), but its called ShowCase and it shows EVERYTHING! Trailer Park Boys at 10 pm, Red Shoe Diaries at 11, etc. Their motto is 'Television Without Borders'

South Park showed up in Canada at a 9:30 timeslot the first time it aired, I saw nothing wrong with this, why oh why if people don't like the programming do they not just change the channel? Seems easy enough.

Showcase has ruined many a teenage mind, I love that channel.
|
also, perhaps it's worth recalling that south park episode that kept a running total of the use of the word "shit." i think they got past 200. this was in the normal timeslot for the show.
|
this isn't the first time they are showing this on Comedy Central...
a forum search would have netted: South Park Search http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/showthr...ght=south+park http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/showthr...ght=south+park http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/showthr...ght=south+park |
on TV in the UK, as long as its after 9pm, you say whatever the hell you want!

Here in canada we have nudity, language, and violence around the clock! And that is on basic, broadcast, public, satellite, and cable!
Just buy a canadian dish and point it north! |

I know, I was in college in Buffalo. The stuff I saw on TV while hanging out across the border in Niagara Falls made me jealous of Canadians for like 5 seconds. -Mikey |
I've seen it uncensored on CC before. It was late-night (afte midnight) but uncensored. I was flipping channels and caught a string of curse words out of the corner of my ear (can you hear out of the corner of your ear?).
