Here are some interesting changes for Empire:

Quote:
http://www.thedigitalbits.com/review...rstrilogy.html

The digital changes to Empire for this DVD release are fewer than they are in A New Hope. In fact, there are only three major changes. These include the use of Temuera Morrison as the voice of Boba Fett (which I suppose makes sense given that Boba is a clone of Jango from Episode II), the elimination of Luke's scream when he jumps to escape Vader on Cloud City (which had been a source of much debate among fans - why would he scream if he were jumping willingly?), and the use of actor Ian McDiarmid as the Emperor (replacing the old woman and voice actor Clive Revill who played the character originally). I should note that the Emperor alteration also involves a change in the scene's dialogue - one that is at first confusing. The Emperor now tells Vader that he has no doubt "the young rebel who destroyed the Death Star" is the offspring of Anakin Skywalker, to which Vader replies "How is that possible?" That doesn't seem to make sense, because we know that Vader is aware of who Luke is from dialogue earlier in the film ("That's it. The Rebels are there. And I'm sure Skywalker is with them."). I suspect, however, that we'll find out in Episode III that Anakin DOES learn of Luke's existence as an infant, and he hides this knowledge from the Emperor. What that would mean is that Vader's been waiting all these years to find Luke as an adult and turn him to the Dark Side so that they can overthrow the Emperor together - a plot Vader ultimately confesses to Luke at the end of Empire. We'll have to wait for Episode III to see how this new bit of dialogue fits in.

Oh, and did anyone else catch Star Wars - Empire of Dreams on A&E last night? Great documentary! It's the 2 hour doc that will come with the DVD release.

I also heard that Lucas replaced all blasters with walkie talkies.

I did, it was quite good.
I didnt realize that Lucas was not the director of the last two movies.

Yup, I saw it. Liked it so much I watched it twice.
I especially like the concept art created to sell it to the studios.
Wish I could get my hands on some.

Btw, if I'm not wrong, I think the special on A&E only showed about 3/4 of the entire documentary, so there's more to see on the discs.

Alright, let me clarify something.
The DVD will have:
A) Original untouched version
B) Special Edition (fucked) version
C) Newer Specialer (fuckeder) version

Cool.

Cool.
Are you asking for clarification on what the DVD will have? Because it's C. There are no other versions in the box set. Your only choice (?) is widescreen or fullscreen.

I think it's funny to see all the people who shouted that the image was fake, when we now know it's horribly, horribly real.

You know, I've never had a serious problem with any of the changes Lucas made until this one. When I found out about this one, I was actually upset about it.

Then I read some person's reaction to it after he watched the DVDs and he convinced me that even THIS change is OK.

Nonetheless, for those of you who want the ORIGINAL versions on DVD.....it's out there....if you know where to look

If you play with anything long enough, it will break. George, put the movie down and back away before we have to play with you long enough.

Note to self: Confirm Sources of Information as Being Valid.

Yeah, Lucas still sucks ass and didn't release the non-fucked versions.
Looks like I'm sticking to LaserDisc.

Crazy

I was actually more upset to have the Ewok's "Nub yub echop nub yub" song omitted than the Anikin edit. When I was in school, marching bands would play this and break into the song. It totally kicked ass. Now... gone.

i dont like the changes that much either. what sucks tho is the temura morrison voice over for boba fett. i always liked the original voice. lucas should've been making the prequels to fit the old trilogy, not the other way around.

I'm reading this thread and realized something. The DVD's have been out for a few weeks now. Haven't bought them yet. Honestly not sure if I will. I still consider myself a huge Star War fan but I can't bring myself to like the last two movies. And I absolutely detest the changes to the originals.

Oh well, at least I can still look forward to KOTOR II.

Even though we were good fans and put him in the lofty position he's in today, he doesn't care what we say. He'll do it HIS way. Bastard. Nice way to return a favor ; butcher what we loved.

Yeah, that's been changed since the Special Edition theatrical release. It's my least favorite change of al the changes made to the original trilogy.

A full trailer will be released in November, hop on over to www.theforce.net for a description of what to expect, obviously there are heaps of fucking spoilers, I'm talking huge shit if you know nothing about Ep3 thus far.
