Shut it Dlish!! I think the latest ones have been great! Iron Man, Hulk (cheesy but still fun), Batman. I think that if they can keep them as good as they have been then bring it on!

However the olderish new ones are crap! Daredevil, electra, hulk (2003?), spiderman 3, fantastic 4...

well, after my initial comments I was actually pleasantly surprised. The teaser scene at the end was a bit weak, imo, but at least it is now confirmed that there will be an avengers movie.

I rarely go to the cinema - but watched Thor on monday with son. Most enjoyable afternoon. Make mine Marvel. If you are looking for crap costumes - check out the new Wonder Woman series (dropped). New is not always better.

Thor never interested me (not just the movie but the comic) - the idea of a god being a superhero is not something I can take with any degree of seriousness.

Asgardians aren't immortal and omniscient or anything. They're not even as powerful as the Olympian pantheon (arguably), which is notoriously corrupt and fallible.

The movie was okay. I had some trouble overlooking how the Asgardians looked like they were doing cosplay on Earth.

yeah, I'm with you on that ... the geeks inheriting the earth? But having said that, Thor was my fav comic book from back in my youthdom and I am curious enough to shell out a couple of bucks on the Chinese mall (100%) version of the DVD to check it out.

I probably won't go to the movies to see it, but I'll pick it up on DVD when it comes out.
I like all these super hero movies, even the cheesy bad ones.
I was a comic book nerd way back when. Still have a couple hundred issues from the early-mid 80's tucked away.

When Thor was announced, I had reservations too. I've never been into comic books, but I do like a few of the superhero movies. Most of them aren't really that impressive and come across as cheesy at parts if not as a whole.

I suppose this is what you get when you take something as fantastical by nature as superheroes and try to apply it to a realism via film. If they moved away from live action and started going for the super-high-quality animation such as that found in The Incredibles or maybe going the stylistic route of Sin City and 300, then I think I would enjoy it more.

I think the track record of these superhero films for making the stories believable isn't all that great. I don't know why they go for realism where realism isn't really the expectation. Or is it?

It does work sometimes. The Batman reboot has worked for me. The last Superman movie worked for me. Ironman has worked for me. I can't really explain it. I think it was a balance of storytelling and artistry, fused with believability, that worked. I have little if any stock in other franchises, including X-men and Spiderman. I cant explain why. They haven't really weaved the same web (pardon the pun) as the films I have liked.

In the end, Thor fell short. It was entertaining enough, but I can't take it seriously.

I'm more into fantasy, which has a long and controversial past with regard to quality. It's why I'm glad for its resurgence though such works as the Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, and A Game of Thrones. Regardless, believability is a difficult thing to capture on film, no matter how downplayed or nuanced the fantastical elements.

It's an interesting time in filmmaking.

Saw it in 3D the first weekend it was out. I was looking forward to its release, though my husband wouldn't have gone out of his way to see it on his own. There wasn't a big crowd in the theater, which was somewhat surprising.

We had a wonderful time - overly cheezy at times, but a good comic book movie should be. It felt like a children's flick, honestly, along the same violence level as Ben 10 and Stargate SG1. It was riddled with fun science-y stuff. Natalie Portman did a fine job as a brilliant-yet-beautiful physicist (aside - wondered how much money Kashi payed to have her toss their cereal into a cabinet. There were a number of instances of obvious product placement).

While I did not read the comic book series, nor have I seen the Thor cartoon, I was able to follow the story easily (another example of how I gave it the distinction of a children's flick). My familiarity with Norse mythology came in handy. Loki was way more dark than the sillly trickster that I expected. I liked the galactic theme, and how they placed Asgard on another planet where the gods seemed to take only a passing interest in the lives of Earth's mortals.

The film had a very strong moral thread, with greed and aspirations coming second to humility - and yet good/evil was delightfully murkily defined.

Definitely worth seeing on the big screen in 3D, not sure that I would have enjoyed the same level of fun if I were to see it for the first time at home. I stayed well into the credits because their 3D hubble-like images kept me captivated. Even though it's rated PG-13, it's mild and honestly I felt it should be rated PG. It's definitely a good flick for kids age 8+.

I loved it. Thought it was awesome. So it wasn't 100% the Thor comic book come to life...but it was close enough for me. Good acting, good direction, good screenplay. I thought Chris Hemsworth did a fine job, and it was great to see Anthony Hopkins as Odin!

It was fun. I decided a few months back I'm finished with 3D, and I don't think I'll ever look back. Thor in 2D was like any good summer movie: it was straightforward, it was funny, it was bright and shiny, and there was just enough depth and decent acting to keep audiences from getting bored or frustrated. Michael Bay could learn a thing or two.
