I loved the show it was great. When I saw it was when it first opened with Tim Curry, Hank Azaria & David Hyde Pierce. It was great very funny very entertaining, and I listen to the soundtrack.
Another great show if you want a recommendation is Curtains with David Hyde Pierce. A funny musical but not the same style of humor. |

saw it... but didn't see it with the Original Broadway Cast like Xazy did...I forgot who was in it when we saw it, but it was funny and entertaining.
of course if you didn't find Monty Python funny.... well then it won't be.

I saw it once with the original cast, once just a month ago- it was hysterical! My only advice is to see it often and in different cities, as the script is changed for location and current events. A recent change involved adding a Britney Spears head-shaving joke, and the Knights of Ni now sing "Baby Got Back."

I just read about this in the paper today. Not the Messiah, based on Life of Brian except as a mock oratorio. Sounds like it could be fun.

Yup, I've seen it twice now, once with the original cast; Sara Rimiraz is was hilarious as the lady of the lake, the show is obviously Idle's baby. Really loved it, but there are better out right now.

Not to detract from the OP, but is Monty Python's Life of Brian any good?
I just have the DVD sitting here.

Sometimes you can get good tickets at TKTS booth the day of. Also my uncle is a guru at this, but if you go the day off and ask around if anyone has a extra ticket to sell, you tend to get very good seats. Since those are the people who bought them way in advance, and might have a funeral, last minute business meeting etc... But my uncle hates to make plans but tends to always get amazing seats just by doing that.

I've already got the tickets ordered, and even though they are back row mezzanine, they should be fine.
This is pretty much the same area we had for Lion King. Although I wish we would have been in orchestra seating for that when the show started. My fault for procrastinating.

I saw it back with original cast, and the show was absolutely amazing, actually i think we had a stand-in for lady of the lake, but Tim Curry, Hank Azaria and David Hyde Pierce were all there. Fantastic show but being a huge Monty fan, not too suprising I like it. I own the soundtrack as well and still listen to it.
Oh and to the person who asked, yes Life of Brian rocks. |

On the original topic, I saw Spamalot in NYC, but not the original cast. I really enjoyed it, but if you are a big Python fan you do wind up getting distracted by playing "spot the changed dialog" and "spot the other Python reference thrown in." I found I least enjoyed the parts that were more or less verbatim from the film. I knew the punchline and the differences in accents, voices, etc were distracting.

Something that confused her I think was how the audience would applaud at the beginning of many of the scenes. Once I explained that people familiar with Monty Python and the Holy Grail recognized what was going to happen and were applauding much as one would do when they hear the first few notes of a song at a concert she at least understood that much.
