Henry & June Screen Shots - NSFW

Mi amor sent me a nice little e-present today and I thought I would share them with tfp - screen shots he took while watching one of our favorite films, Henry and June. There are a couple with brief nudity and sexual content, so if you find that sort of thing objectionable then pass on by. I couldn't find anything in the rules saying I couldn't do something like this, so I'm taking a chance. Hope you like. :)

Oh, I can't bump it myself....boo.

Nice to see some classic eroticism. One of the hallmarks of which is the "knowing look," as seen in many of these pics.

mixedmedia 01-18-2007 07:54 AM

Yes! And stockings. Mi amor likes stockings...lucky for me. :)

abaya 01-18-2007 08:27 AM

Damn, that looks like a hot flick... may have to rent it soon.

Oh...you must.

...the unrated version, of course. It's not a perfect film, but it has some of the most beautifully photographed sex scenes ever put on film.

Another one, flawed but hawt, The Postman Always Rings Twice, with Jack Nicholson and Jessica Lange...

meanSpleen 01-18-2007 10:44 AM

I honestly thought that it was a reference/sequel to Benny & Joon, based on the title

So is this all about some love square/pentagon with all the parties involved?

mixedmedia 01-18-2007 11:02 AM

Sort of. Essentially it is about the sexual awakening of one of literature's greatest writers of erotica, Anais Nin. But, it's plot chiefly revolves around the love triangle between the American ex-pat writer Henry Miller, Nin and Miller's wife June. It takes place in the early 1930's among the Bohemian society in Paris. And it is hot. :)

The best thing about this film, besides the fact that it start Fred Ward (who I think is very underrated, Maria DiMaderios (sp?) and Uma, is that is uses the photographer Brassai as an influence on many of the compositions.

I really love Brassai.

Pair this with the fact that I am a very big fan of Henry Miller.

You are right, the film is not perfect, there a number of flaws BUT it's a nice little gem nonetheless. I haven't seen it in years but I did reread Tropic of Cancer recently.

I like Fred Ward, too.

And I hadn't heard that about Brassai before, but now that you mention it. Ya! I can see it. I'm a Brassai enthusiast. I love his photographs.

I'm a so-so fan of Henry Miller. I do love Anais Nin, though. I think I have yet to meet a woman who loves Henry Miller, lol. I've always meant to try and read the trilogy he wrote...Sexus, Plexus...there's another one I can't think of right now...but haven't gotten around to it.

There's so many books to read...

Any female Henry Miller fans around here? Inquiring mind wants to know.

Charlatan 01-19-2007 11:26 AM

Actually, if I remember correctly, Brassai is in the film (well an actor plays him). He is the photographer that Miller hangs out with... they take shots of prostitutes (which are recreation of Brassai photos). There are other instances of Brassai recreations in the film as well.

As for Miller... what can I say. He's one of the few people that I would say that I admire. If I could live in anyother time it would be in Paris at the time of Miller.

That I might be able to agree with you on.

Derwood 01-19-2007 02:05 PM

is that the girl who plays Bruce Willis' girlfriend in Pulp Fiction?

meanSpleen 01-19-2007 02:17 PM

If you mean potbellies are sexy?

potbellies?

This is actually one of my favorite movies in this vein (ie. sexual awakening). The other would be a movie called "The Lover."

You know, I'm going to watch the film again because I don't remember this. Of course, I wasn't as much into photography then. It's been years since I watched it.

...Nexus.

When I first saw this film I thought, "Fred Ward as Henry Miller? Huh?" But then, I saw the film and changed my mind. Now, I can't imagine anyone else playing that role. I realize the movie was based on the diaries of Anais, but I would have loved to see a lot more of the relationship between Henry and June. That was one fucked up marriage, but it resulted in some of the most raw literature of the 20th century.

Charlatan 01-19-2007 05:25 PM

If you want more of his relationship to June, read Tropic of Capricorn. It's a prequel (for lack of a better word) to Tropic of Cancer.

I just re-watched this film last night and now I have this strange craving......:suave:

and, Charlatan, I don't know how I missed that Brassai montage before...must have been distracted or something...:p

shesus 01-21-2007 02:33 PM

I have been meaning to read some of Henry Miller's work. We have all or most of his books because JJ is a fan. I'm a Nin fan so we have most of her books also. My favorite one is Little Birds, favorite story is The Woman on the Dunes. You can actually read them on-line: http://www.geocities.com/arsenio_gri...html#The_Woman
My poor book is almost falling apart. I keep it by the bed at all times. It's good for inspiration and some fun times. ;)

So MM, when I do get around to reading some Henry Miller, I'll let you know if I'm a fan or not. :)

Oh, and I love the movie. I was so upset when we got the DVD player and got rid of the VCR because I couldn't watch it anymore. And the movie wasn't easy to find. Analog found it at some site for me so I could order it. Got it for around $7 I think. It was a happy day. :)
