Blade - The Series
i did a search with no results ...
did anyone catch the new blade series on spike last night? thoughts? i thought it was ok looks like it picked up where the movies left off. i guess it'll take a couple episodes to make my mind up. |
I TiVO'd it and am only about halfway through the episode, but so far I'm sort of liking it and sort of not.
I like the story line, it seems like it'll have a plot that will last at least one season, but I just can't get over the actor playing Blade. He's actually doing a decent job, but I just keep expecting to hear Snipes's voice and face. It is sort of a let down everytime I hear the guy speak. (Though this is no fault of the actors, just me!) |
I was a little disappointed in the fight choreography, and the acting was a little subpar, as expected. But all in all, it was better than I expected, especially after the interviews I say "Sticky" do during the UFC shows all week. If I could just make one request to the creators it would be please, please, keep UFC fighters out of any future episodes.

I thought it sucked. Overpowerful characters...lame gadgets...I really hate the idea of a vampire aristocracy.

I agree with Devoid. I wasn't expecting that twist with the girl, or with her brother either. That was nice.
It was definitely weird seeing "Sticky" as Blade... I think Wesley's a better Blade, obviously, but "Sticky" did the job okay. I'll watch one or 2 more episodes just to see what happens. Overall, 6.5/10. I did like that it was widescreen though. That was a nice surprise. |

Sticky comes off a little too angry in the role. He needs to relax a little and be more "cool".

Not to mention they have really scaled back on how powerful Blade is compared to the movies. On the big screen, if Blade knew where the Kathan (sp?) headquarters was, as he does in the series, he would stroll in and start handing out beatings until he found out what he wanted to know and/or killed every vamp in the place. In the series, however, Blade seems to have problems handling more than a few vamps at a time, and seems to prefer subterfuge and sneakiness to get what he wants, no matter how tough he talks. Personally, I prefer method A.

At least, that's my guess. :) |
I agree that eliminating the vamp headquarters would probably be bad for plot progression, but I think they could fit in a few larger scale fight scenes, maybe make "Sticky Fingaz" and his stunt trainer earn their pay.
I remember going to see the original Blade way back when, and the defining moment of the movie, and possibly the trilogy, was the first scene where Blade goes ape shit on the vamp ravers. They had me from then on, and I'd like to see more of that in the series. |
Didnt see it and from the sounds of things I'm not missing much. Personally I thought the second and third movie sucked so the series didnt hold much appeal for me.
