"a new surprising surprise"...heh. I love this crazy alien version of Pooh. No matter what happens, he's always still the same, cute, curious bear.

Giant Hamburger 02-08-2010 03:47 PM

NO LONGER!

They used the motion detectors to hunt each one down and corner them.
Fire is the only way to cleanse the wood.

Are they "COMING FROM THE WALLS!" yet?

Brilliant!

This is what Tiggers do best...

operate a hydraulic exoskeleton.

Baraka_Guru 02-09-2010 10:14 AM

And with that, GH has just won the Internet.

Plan9 02-09-2010 11:09 AM

This is so beautiful...

Charlatan 02-09-2010 04:39 PM

A little tear just fell from my eye.

ohh, awesome!

Plan9 02-10-2010 10:50 AM

This stuff is a real crowd pleaser.

...

My god... what's next? Pooh vs. Predator?

Giant Hamburger 02-10-2010 11:15 AM

Alieneeyore was too shy to devour Pooh uninvited.

telekinetic 02-10-2010 11:43 AM

I'm not even slightly joking when I say: I would pay $24.95 for a properly bound coffee-table scale version of the drawings exactly as they appear in this thread, no redoing of artwork needed.

BG, what's the legality of publishing work using other people's IP protected characters in parody?

The_Jazz 02-10-2010 11:48 AM

Let me know when this is done, GH, and we'll move it up front so that the world can see. This is too awesome not to share.

Giant Hamburger 02-10-2010 11:48 AM

It should be done like one of those Little Golden Books:

Indeed it should. I would stick it in my daughter's bedtime story rotation post-haste.

I'm not that certain about American copyright laws. I would guess that this work could not be sold. There are multiple licensees of Milne's work (e.g. Disney) and one or more might take issue with distributing and selling the characters' likenesses to the full extent within a story and not having the rights. It might be all right to give it away, but even then a cease and desist from Disney wouldn't surprise me.

Plan9 02-10-2010 12:15 PM

Fine, we'll just send them a facehugger or two and take care of that problem.

Giant Hamburger 02-10-2010 12:18 PM

The only question is WHICH franchise would sue me first.

Well, U.S.-based Parragon Publishing licenses the rights from Disney for various activity books. Dutton is an imprint under Penguin, which does the "classics" you're basing your work on. I imagine the former would be slighted if you didn't have rights to publish, but I imagine the latter would be more likely to take action.

Disney, on the other hand, gets my vote as the first to sue you if it were to happen. I've heard of them doing stuff like that and, after all, they are the actual holder of the copyright.

Plan9 02-10-2010 12:31 PM

Cast aside these worries. You must focus on the marvelous story. You've got us by the balls and/or ovaries here.

Giant Hamburger 02-11-2010 07:23 AM

Oh dear, something seems to have landed on Pooh.

Wouldn't it be protected as parody, though?

Quote:

Although a parody can be considered a derivative work under United States Copyright Law, it can be protected from claims by the copyright owner of the original work under the fair use doctrine, which is codified in 17 USC § 107. The Supreme Court of the United States stated that parody "is the use of some elements of a prior author's composition to create a new one that, at least in part, comments on that author's works."
Then again, that might not stop Disney from suing anyway. Long legal battles are never fun.

Redlemon 02-11-2010 11:46 AM

My son got a blank Little Golden Book. I think it came along with a pack of 5 other regular LGBs, shrinkwrapped. Of course, it would be too short to fit all of these images, not to mention their awesomeness.

Giant Hamburger 02-11-2010 11:54 AM

That's cool Redlemon, maybe I should pick that up and make my kids a story.
I tend to hide these pictures from them.
I have qualities that must be kept from my children until they are older.

How many pages does it have?
Is the cover blank?

Oh yeah...now hold still Pooh!

Redlemon 02-11-2010 12:23 PM

The cover is blank, with that gold strip on the edge. I'm not sure where it is, but I just looked up:

and it seems that they are 24 pages. Ah, some other links:

Jetée 02-11-2010 06:04 PM

Pooh's really accumulating too many new orifices, in a variety of new, alarming ways.

I'm not sure if I, personally, have said it as of yet, and I'm not going to be as descriptive as stating that you should be my new life-partner soon, as others have intimated before me, but nevertheless; Thank you.

I love when an endeavor becomes something bigger than whence it began, and becomes a story unto itself.

Giant Hamburger 02-12-2010 07:22 AM

Thank you for thanking me Master Jetée.

LOL I love this whole thread. What makes it so great is that you really know your pooh bear. :)
