female hair loss
Well, okay, I'm not losing my hair exactly, but for a year now it's been thinning (slowly, but I can definately tell it's happening). What I want to know is...how do I not only make it stop, but also make this thicker? Wherever I part my hair, I can see through it. It sucks. XP HELP!

there's a thread on hair loss in... living I believe. What has been suggested the most there is the OTC Rogaine treatment, but it's definitely a thing you should ask your doctor about. I know some people have gotten body hair from rinsing out the Rogaine in the shower (and the Rogaine is in the rinse water, etc).

there is a thread in health that talks about it a little bit - the downside to rogaine, it's a lifetime commitment (at least the prescription variety) once you stop using it - -all the hair that rogaine helped grow.. .falls out...
It's definitely sometihng to talk to your doctor about, it might be as simple as a vitamin deficiency (vitamin A and d I think are good for hair and nails)you also want to be sure that there's not an underlying condition. Do you use lots of product on your hair? that does cause some problems down the road I believe... |
ummm... I thought this topic was about *everywhere* female hair loss. :blushes:
The hair on my head is thinning and falling out. I had a gentle perm on virgin hair recently, but I don't think that is the cause of my hair loss. And this 55 year-old is beginning to look prepubecent  |
Try alopecia areata on for size and then speak about hair loss.

Thanks everyone.

Make sure you are not getting too much of a certain vitamin! I think vitamin A or E... I was on prenatal and the A or E vitamin (I forgot) made my hair fall out in clumps!!!! :(
Goodluck sweetie! :icare: |
Try Nioxin, it's OTC -or usually in better beauty supply stores- and I have been using it for a year, thanks to a friend in the biz. I find that it is a real cure for thinning hair. My hair looks better & thicker, shinier now than it did when I was a hormone healthy ripe young 'un.
Don't be put off by the price and it takes a week or so to see the results. Good luck! |
if you want a natural way of stopping hair loss, try using aloe vera.
a friend of mine who was losing hair used horse shampoo (mane n' tail) and it made his hair thicker (I'm not kidding). |
Are you on hormones??
Hormones can affect hair loss and growth drastically. It's common for a pregnant woman to have a lot of thick hair growth but once the baby is born she looses a lot of hair. Part of it is the physical stress of childbirth and a large part is the flux in hormones after childbirth. Check with you Dr if you are on BCPs Also there are several scalp conditions that can cause hair loss, Folliculitis, seborrheic dermatitis, dandruff, etc. Most of those are helped by using fugastatic creams such as clortrimazole on the scalp and shampoos with tar in them. If you don't like the smell of the shampoos you can always use a conditioner on your hair afterwards and it will help the smell. You can get Neutrogena tar shampoo or Nizoral (which as fungastatic medication in it) to treat most of the above conditions. If there is anything like that going on it would behove you to see a dermatologist who can better recommend ways to help. I wouldn't wait to see a Dr because hair loss is easier to stop than it is to grow hair where none is growing anymore. |
