Men and Baggy Pants

My husband and I were enjoying the weather today. In Chicago, 50 degrees is a heat wave. Anyway, we were sitting at the Water Tower and drinking our coffee when this man's pants almost fell down. Now, he lifted up his shirt to pull up his pants. I guess he didn't pull them up because his butt and boxers were still showing. His SO was standing beside him like this was a normal occurance. I would be so embarrassed.
Now, I realize in the mid to late 90s, this was the "style". However, is this still acceptable? Are there any women out there that find this attractive? We are just curious as to why men are still doing this and if women are encouraging their men to dress this way.

I find the baggy pants craze to be rediculous. My husband and I often find ourselves stuck walking behind Mr. Baggy in the mall and literally crack up as his pants slide down further and further to reveal red silk undies at which point Mr. Baggy can't walk any further and finally slows down to hike up his britches. Come on guys. This looks really stupid.

But that is just my opinion. If you want to wear em' baggy, just be aware of the possible consequences.................and snickers.

Why do men wear pants like that? I have never understood it. I'm originally a Chicago girl myself and sheesh, have you ever been to Calumet City? Or how about almost any neighborhood on the south side? I knew guys in high school who walked around with their knees pinched together the whole time all in the name of baggy pant "fashion."

If the pants are so baggy that boxers and/or butts are hanging out, then that's stupid. A little baggy, that's fine, as long as they basically fit. But I constantly see these guys whose pockets are hanging down by their knees, and I have to wonder, "do they think that's attractive?"

It IS funny, though, to see guys like that try to run. :p

or navigate going up stairs... :) that's really good for a laugh..

But honestly, I've seen some female types wandering around in their low rise skin tight jeans, that when they sit down, half their derreire is exposed to the world - -

The boys and the girls just need to get together and wear pants that actually fit...

Silly fashion fad. Next people will be wearing socks on their ears...
Hey, let's get that idea rolling!!!

You first.

Got 'em!! They're purple and green striped with individual toes, about a foot long... I'm going out on the town now, I'll let you know how it goes!!

I think pants that are a bit baggy in the leg area are nice, as long as they actually fit in the waist area! At least my SO has the sense to wear a belt when his pants are a bit loose. And as for the girls who wear pants that are so low you can see their thong underwear sticking out....why? Cracks have never been an attractive feature ;)

I think that this is acceptable. The Easy Fit jeans can look nice, if they fit the waist.

I have heard that these are going out of style. I guess we will have to wait and see. Maybe, the sock craze will take over!! :D

My boyfriend doesn't wear hugely baggy pants like we are talking about here, but he does like his pants baggier and hanging down around his hips held up with a belt. It's a damned shame too because he has such a nice ass but he is always hiding it behind bulky, baggy jeans. Now you get him into a pair of khakis and yeow!

Squishor 02-06-2005 11:15 AM

I think the baggy pants thing is so ludicrous and not even slightly attractive. If I'm ever with my boyfriend and have to run for some reason, I'd really rather not have to carry him. It's one of those things I suspect a bunch of people are going to look back on later and cringe with embarassment. "I wore that?"

Yeah! My lover always wears these baggy, ratty 501s. He adores them, but to say they fit badly would be the understatement of the year. But boy...you get him in some nice pants--or even better, his leather pants--and damn. He's got a sweet, sweet behind.

As I'm a girl who likes to check out men's butts the whole baggy pants trend has really been a downturn for me. I was thankful in high school that wearing well-fitting khakis was also a trend, and so there were always plenty of butts available for admiration.

Thanks for bringing up this topic, ohh_shesus!

I have never understood the popularity of baggy, ill-fitting pants and shirts on men. The style is just plain ugly, unflattering, and does nothing to appeal to me.

What particularly bugs me is that women are always going for the tighter, clingier clothing while the men's get baggier and looser. So, men still get the advantage of checking women out, and women are left to guess what's underneath all that excess material.

Whatever happened to the days when men were proud to strut their stuff?

Squishor 02-06-2005 02:17 PM

The sad thing is, they think they are strutting their stuff or something, or at least they think they're looking good. Why I can't fathom. Like I really want to walk down the street with some guy who's grabbing his pants with one hand to keep them up!

ironmaiden7o7 02-06-2005 09:17 PM

I personally can't stand the whole baggy pants thing, it's so unattractive. I remember back in the 90's, I liked it back then, I was much younger and basically everyone in school were wearing them, even the females. I like men in fitted pants, it's more sexy in my opinion.

raeanna74 02-07-2005 07:09 AM

I never understood this becoming a fashion. Not with having worked with my Dad since 1980 or so and watching construction workers walking around, crouching, and hanging from rafters and all the while there were butt cracks or boxers or even briefs showing above the waistline. Honestly those guys should get some royalties or something since they were on the leading edge of baggy pant fashion. I remember once when I was starting to notice "men" and I was there working for Dad. I was working on something, heard someone above and behind me, and turned around just in time to see a very large hairy butt crack staring me in the face as a guy dropped down from the rafters above. Not the most pleasant sight. Disconcerting to say the least.

Hubby and I find this somewhat amusing. We'll be walking through the store behind a couple of cocky kids with the pants hanging down and one or the other of us will whisper "Wonder what they'd do if I gave those pants a jerk down?" One of these days I just may do it.

As far as I know it's not supposed to be "In" anymore. Definately "Out."

Could it be that the woman was acting non-chalant about it on purpose but was inwardly squirming? That would be what I'd do.

superredhead 02-07-2005 09:03 AM

My friend used to make a game out of walking behind guys with baggy jeans and accidentally stepping on the leg of the jean dragging on the floor (he was evil). even after their pants dropped down around their ankles, they'd still pull them up about half way and just cinch the belt tighter. i'm definitely a butt girl, and it's really depressing to see guys in these awful jeans depriving me of a nice view.
