Tailbone?

So I was wondering if anyone else has this...

When I was a kid, I whacked my tailbone REALLY hard. From then on, I have thought that the reason my tailbone is out of place/sticks out/has two little lumps is because of that incident.

Does anyone else have this? When I bend over, I can feel it poking out, and there are two little bumps. Weeeird.

I don't have that but I do constantly have the feeling that it needs to somehow be stretched/lengthened/popped

I broke my tailbone when I was 22-landed on it twice in one day. It's out of whack and I can't sit right for very long without having to shift; I can feel the place where it broke when I sit. I don't think it's supposed to stick out(it's been a long time since it's broken), so I'd probably say that's what it is on you, specially if it's hard as bone.

Me too! Yoga can help a lot with this, but I think the primary culpret is poor posture. Try always to keep your pelvic girdle tilted in (opposite of pushing it out, which leads to sway back), which lengthens and stetches out the lowest back area. Contract the muscles in your lower abs like you're trying to hold your belly in while gently pulling down on the upper glutes--like you're sitting on the edge of a bar stool.

That can help quite a lot.

I have always had very good posture, and I've done yoga for a few years now. Neither of them corrrect the weird tailbone situation...

Ahh, no, I didn't think it would, I was responding to silly girl with the tight sacral area thing.

Do the bumps hurt? Does that area ache, especially during wet/cold weather?

The bumps are two bones, and I'm wondering if that is normal to have two bones like that or if you're just supposed to have one. It doesn't ache but it hurts to do things like situps or roll around on the floor during yoga.

Have you seen a doctor about it? An X-ray might confirm or ease your worries.

I randomly came across the thread from forever ago. Turns out that my lower back pain could definitely be due to osteopenia of the lower lumbar!
