Hello
I posted earlier in "New & Improved" but it seems be correct protocol to start a hello thread, too?
Found your forum surfing. Looks to be a vibrant community! Hoping to make new friends to carry with me, as I travel a great deal. Will brave posting my first journal entry later tonight!

Hi Handmedown. Yep, starting a thread to introduce yourself is a-ok, highly encouraged, and generally a great way to meet people. Welcome to our community.

Wow! Thanks for the warm greetings! I am already starting to feel at home here, which is exactly what I was hoping to find.
I found the Literature thread and wondered if it is ok to post double entries, say in my journal *and* in a thread? I like to write poetry and paragraph vignettes, but maybe try them out and edit them in the journal first. Is that ok?

You're going to get less traffic in a blog (we had journals but those are long gone). But cross-posting is fine. Whatever works best for you, and we tend to be really relaxed about that kind of thing.
Unless you're offering to enlarge our penises or sell us knockoff watches in your literature. Then we get pissy. And by we, I mean me.

So "blog" is more your word here for journal, I see. Right?
Nope, not selling stuff. Just like to write in my spare time and share it. I'm not published or anything. Just a hack! Is there a rating limit / language rating level I need to be aware of? I tend to be dark, gritty, erotic (which might include penis talk!) but I'd use more descriptive language, if it's permitted. Like Sylvia Plath, Anne sexton, pattie smith. Not saying I am anywhere near their work, just example. I'm not all gloom and grit, just not mostly girlie / flowery verse.

Well, unless you're going to talk about fucking kids or animals. That might be a problem. Post away.

Ok, I think I am beginning to understand. Colorful language is not an issue.
No, my subject matter is not such, per se, but I've met a few people in life who might classify as animals or mental children, which is certainly open as subject matter, I hope? Thank you! You've been most helpful! ---------- Post added at 04:57 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:36 PM ---------- Quote:

I hope DaveOrion's "Goodbye" hasn't discouraged you from posting. He's likely frustrated at the fact that newbies don't always stick around. There were a couple this month who looked promising but started spamming the crap out of the place and were subsequently banned.
I don't expect this behavior from you.

Thank you amonkie, The_Jazz, DaveOrion, genuinegirly for making me feel at home and putting up with my long list of questions!
I made my first blog post! My blog is called: HandmeDown Lane I hope you'll stop by. Oops. Another question. Is there a way to link to my blog from a post?? I see a link button up there...dare I push it? Oh hell, let's be brave and try it...hmm...need more posts....ok... ---------- Post added at 08:46 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:43 PM ---------- Thanks for the explanation, genuinegirly. I was kind of wondering and chalking it up to being a newbie still. No, I hate spam. I certainly won't be making it, frying it, or eating it. And I am glad someone around here is keeping it off the shelves.

So I ventured out onto this board and posted some greetings to other new folks. Kind of fun to see all the ways people introduce themselves and the quick discussion that ensues.
I also visited a few blogs and profiles and since I like pressing buttons (no, not in that sense), I pressed a few subscribe and befriend buttons. Once again, glad to be here.

As you may have gathered from Jazz's rather blunt explanation, this place is pretty open; some might even say downright crude and raunchy at times. Rest assured that while there are serious discussions of any and all subjects, language of any sort generally isn't an issue. While no one would object to Masters and Johnson-style clinical detachment, you wouldn't garner a lot of responses. On the other hand, if can you hold your own arguing with a drunken soccer-fan after his favourite team losses big time, you should have no difficulty being understood here.
And pressing buttons in that way can be a lot of fun. Some folks here specialise in that

Thanks, GreyWolf! I stopped by your profile and pressed a few of your buttons, too.
I am glad you stopped by HandmeDown Lane. Feel free to comment or critique or point out alternative ideas. I dig that. HD

The thing I've noticed about The_Jazz is that he talks turkey.
Which is completely different from saying, "He talks like a turkey." Talking turkey often comes across as blunt, but it cuts to the chase. When someone has the gift of talking turkey, it minimizes the chances of a wild goose running through the conversation. ---------- Post added at 04:44 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:41 PM ---------- Quote:
Maybe point me in the right direction? Literature thread? I'll take a peek.
