What does "Nag" mean to you?

I am doing a little research for a project and I know that many words mean different things on opposite sides of the atlantic... I think this board is mainly populated by Americans(?), so...

What does Nag mean to you? (and where are you from :))

A shit racehorse. (UK) ;)

I'm from the US and is usually used to describe the act of annoying someone by whining and complaining, though I've also heard it used to describe a worn out horse.

Old horse.

or...

Classic women's perspective: Reminding others of items on your mental to-do list. Items not necessarily agreed upon, but things you've at least mentioned before, heard "uh huh, sure dear", and they'd sure be nice if they were done.

Classic men's perspective: Others making you mental with their to-do list reminders. Reminders of things you may have agreed to, but it was probably under duress of said list-keeper standing between you and a sporting event.

To both: Participate. Make a list, agree on it. Expectations are key.
To Women: Write it down, say it once, move on.
To Men: Get it done or don't agree to it.

From the Western USA

To repeatedly remind someone of a deficiency, lack, mistake, or hazard far past the point of reason. As a noun, "nag" means "someone who nags;" both men and women can be nags, but the term is most often applied to women. I'm in a California college town.

I'm familiar with the use of the word "nag" to mean a used-up horse, but only through movies, books, and very occasionally from people in their '70s and beyond. Again, I'm in an urban environment, so who knows what's happening out on the farms?

Xazy 01-08-2006 09:26 AM

Yes but it is heaps of time over something trivial (well to me).

Thanks for all the replies :) I was hoping that it would mean to remind people of stuff over on the US side as well..

Cheers :)

From Ireland, and nag means "the act of annoying someone by whining and complaining" (Da Monk).
