This will sound like a internet rumor, but... my mother-in-law just called to tell me that the mother of a friend of Quadro's brother called her. This friend's mom owns a gas station. She told MIL that gas prices are going up 57 cents tomorrow morning due to the hurricane effects on the off-shore drilling rigs in the Gulf.

I don't know if it's bullshit, but I doubt it, and what's the harm in filling up tonight even if it is? I imagine that if it does go up that much, it will be temporary. I know that it shouldn't affect gas stations this quickly, but that hasn't stopped them from fucking with prices before.

So, go buy gas tonight if you're able, just in case. And I thought $2.57/gallon was bad!

I don't get it. I sat at a stoplight and watched someone change the price from 2.59/g to 2.79. What ever happened to 1-3 cent changes. And when does it stop? If people can make synthetic oil, why can't it or a varient be used as a replacement ? It's so confusing.

Seen a price comparison between a regular oil change and a synthetic oil change lately? You can get regular for $20. Synthetic is closer to $50. That's $50 for maybe 1 gallon of oil. I kinda don't wanna pay that much

I heard on the local news last night pretty much the same story, but they said "20-30 cents in the next couple days". I filled up last night thankfully, since gas has already gone up 20 cents here.

I'm not expecting it to go up 57 cents (not that I have any idea what it will go to), but I do expect it to go high enough that I can save a few bucks by filling up tonight. It took over a hundred bucks to fill both tanks tonight.

I've only been putting a half tank in at a time for a few weeks now thinking that if it went back down a bit in a few days that I would save a bit. That strategy hasn't worked worth a damn.

I just got gas. The gas station owner confirmed that yes, he will be raising his prices to $3.00 tonight. We got it at Sunoco for $2.71 99/100, full service. Mobil was $2.85 99/100 already, and Exxon was $2.99 99/100 as well, self service. Mind you, I live in NYC.

But still. If you need any... tonight's your night.

brb must get gas tonight just incase ahhhhhhhhhhh *runs down the stairs to the car, gets in drives t the gas station. Gets our realizes he has a full tank and adds 0.50 to top it off again and goes home*

In light of all the devestation, death and loss of homes in the gulf area of the USA, I find the fact that people who are more concerned about spending a few extra bucks to fill up their gas tanks really very pathetic. Especially those "rushing out tonight" to beat the price.

the local news is reporting a 20-30 cent jump by tomorrow. filled up all 3 cars already. cost: $140. gas is at $2.49 right now.

whenever shit like this happens, it just makes me remember how fucking stupid and selfish people in my city are. a majority of the people here dont give a shit.

No one here said that they weren't concerned about the devestation, death, and loss of homes. But unfortunatley, it cannot be undone. What we can do, though, is try to save money on gas.

I am sure that the victims of the hurricane will not be too upset if we go out to buy gas tonight before the prices rise that much more. In fact, I am sure that they would do the same thing if it had the rest of us and not them.

But none of what I am saying will matter to you or the others that have said things like this in the past few days, because you are going to wait until the prices are sky high so as not to offend those in the devastated areas.

Yes, I do feel horrible for those thousands of people trapped in the Superdome with no electricity or running water and the thousands of others affected by this. I have prayed for them everynight since I found out about this (Sunday night). And I have even gone ahead and set up donation areas at my job. But I also want to make sure that I can afford to drive to work tommorow.

I'm pretty sure that the oil that we're getting out of the rigs down in the gulf is just a small portion of the whole, and that this is just a convenient way to transition into what should have been the case months ago.

From Sunday to today they went up 6c a gallon-to $2.55. Luckily one station was slow to change yesterday so I got it at 2.49, but only $20 worth-about 3/4 tank. I'm sure it'll go ove $3 by the end of the week.
It may go down a few...it has in the past...but this conjecture on the part of the gas station owners that makes them jack up the price like mad is irritating-it's not done AFTER the oil prices go up-it's done on the anticipation of it.

Driving less is hard if you go to work/school each day.
Drive a more fuel-efficient car? Well if we had enough money to buy a new car....
Walk/Bike not aways an option, bikers get hit by cars quite often (i'm sure it sucks).

This post was intended to help people. We use gas in our cars, and use those cars to go to work etc. Thanks for the advice, I hope gas prices aren't too bad when I return to USA.

But the worst part of it is, even though I don't drive (I don't even own a car and I live in LA), I will still be affected by this. Transportation, shipping, etc will all be affected.

I think even WalMart is concerned too, how the high price of oil will affect their prices.

I also have to work/ go to school, but for the past seven years I've lived in LA ( a notoriously car-obsessed town), I've managed just fine withou a car. Well, yes inconvenienced but I walk/ take bus alot. My roomates bike to school everyday (crazy guys). I just don't like to be all sweaty in lecture.

You're in Japan still right? Do you drive a car everyday? If so then well, I don't know, drive less?

But otherwise, I assume you have to go to work and school everyday somehow (bus? walk? bike?). Besides, small cars get hit by bigger cars everyday too. *shrug*

Anyways, hope your diet is working out for you.

In Japan most people use the public transportation system.
It is insanely expensive though.
But cars are even more expensive.

A 30min drive from the outskirts of hiroshima to the main part of hiroshima cost 20dollars in tolls. There is no "free"way.

There are all kinds of bills and taxes and gas is so much more expensive.

We should be thankful of what we have in the USA.

Now in the states I live to far from my college to walk, and biking is suicide, so I gotta drive.

2 days ago we had half a tank and thought "we should fill this up just in case". That was for 2.49, and it was 2.59 yesterday. Haven't seen what it is today yet...

In re: being "sick and ice cold" for posting about rising prices: My intention to give a heads up to other people about the insanely fast rise of gas prices has nothing to do with how I feel about the devastation in the South. It has everything to do with dealing with the practicalities of living day to day in a commuting society. Assumptions like that make an ass out of you and umption. Thanks to those who interpreted the intent more clearly.

So far, what I've seen this morning (in the NE, NYC), has been increases of about 15-20 cents in many stations, and up to the threatened 57 cents in, oh, maybe 25% of those I saw. Gulf and bp (by Amoco) were in the 15-20 cent range, while Getty, Exxon, and Mobil were in the 50-57 cent range.

The best case scenario that I can see happening is that once things are re-settled a bit down South - power back on, oil rigs working again, etc. - is a drop of no more than 10 cents. But I have no scientific basis on which to hypothesize that.

It's up at $1.30 AUD a liter here. That's, uhm, $5AUD per gallon, so $3.74US. And it ain't going down. Us aussies have like the world's second most expensive fuel, or something.

That area of the country gets slammed with hurricanes year after year after year... sometimes multiple times in a single year alone, yet people STILL choose to live there.

Not really. Gas is forecasted to rise to $4.00 and up per gallon. That's more than double what it was this time last year. The country's economy can't sustain that - I know my employer won't up my salary to compensate and I'm pretty sure yours won't either. If that keeps up too long it could have HUGE impacts on the economy - It could fling us into a depression, which will bring misery to the whole country, and also more misery to those in NO as money to rescue and rebuild is no longer available.

I can second this my uncle works for one of the big oil company's and they can't get the pumps back online to pump crude oil up the east coast to the refineries so the prices are going to sky rocket and some places will run out of gas

vautrain Crazy	Here in rural Illinois, gas is about $3/gal right now, and expected to go to $3.25 today, and possibly over $4/gal within the week.

cj22009 On the edge of control Location: Ga	I can second this my uncle works for one of the big oil company's and they can't get the pumps back online to pump crude oil up the east coast to the refineries so the prices are going to sky rocket and some places will run out of gas
