Been on TV? Share your stories of fame.

A lot of us have been on tv for one reason or another. No matter how small the appearance, it's always exciting. So share your brushes with stardom here.

My first incident happened when I was a little kid. You know how the news will sometimes film a random lawn with the sprinkler on while they display temperatures? Well, they chose my parents' lawn, and I saw them out there. So I ran outside and casually sat on the fron steps. So there I was behind the text on tv.

Late, in high school, I was at a concert at a local club. Apparently the concert was being filmed, because I later turned up on public access television singing along and generally making a fool of myself.

In college we were struck by an ice storm. Texas has no way to deal with ice so classes were cancelled and driving was dangerous. So of course I decide to go walking with a friend to the used CD store across from campus. Well, the local news crew was filming the intersection for their story on the ice storm. So there we were on the news, just crossing the street.

Now this last story is actually cool. See, I'm a hug Bruce Campbell fan. I had gone to a convention in Dallas where he was making an appearance. I was approached by a small camera crew (probably because of my Evil Dead shirt) who started asking me questions about my fandom. I did my part and wondered if I would ever see the footage. Turns out the footage was used in Bruce's documentary called Fanalysis. So I've been immortalized on my Evil Dead special edition DVD. I don't think I'll be able to top that, no matter how many local weather stories are shown.

So there's my 15 minutes of fame. Now share yours...

Me and my class was on tv when we were.. erhh.. 12 I think. It was on a TV-show for kids called "klar, parat, svin!" (=get ready, set, pollute!). The object of the show was to inform kids about the environtment, pollution and how one could reduce it efficiently at home.

The episode we were in featured the "Kim's Chips" company (Denmark's biggest producer of chips)

with their chairman telling about how Kim's Chips reduces pollution by using special kinds of machines etc. In between the interview there were funny cartoons and a dance/rap show about the creation of chips performed by some of the girls from my class. Someone (I forget who) had made these huge potatoe costumes that 6 different kids were wearing during the song. They looked sooo adorable in those over-sized potatoe costumes

I had made badges for us all with a handdrawn logo of the show; a green worm. My 3 minutes of fame is me showing how to make badges That may sound boring to you but I was absolutely fine with it - better badges than running around in some silly costume

I still have the tape of the episode at home actually

June 13 will hopefully NOT be my television debut... I'm hoping I did a good enough job hiding from the camera and that the camera just finds me too ugly and frightening to actually put on television.

The show was a room makeover show that was filmed a few months ago and it's finally appearing now. (lots of production time to airbrush me out)

It was an interesting experience... television personalities aren't what they appear to be... and those room makeover shows are a helluva lot of work.

I can occasionally be seen going in or out of commericials on "Oprah". When they use the set of "bumps" that have the "around the studio" theme, they sometimes use one of me running a spotlight.

And no, I don't get paid for it. In fact, I never knew they taped me working until I saw it on TV. Sorta creepy in a way (and every female relative I know has called me saying they saw me on Oprah.....)

Almost 10 years ago, PBS did a live national broadcast called "The Kids Are Alright" which concerned the versatility of American popular music as a teaching tool. One of the hosts was former Doors drummer John Densmore, and they allowed stations in other states to hook into the broadcast and feature their own panel of experts. I was on the panel of experts from Iowa Public Television, and it was a hoot.

Last summer some local TV personality came to Northern Arizona University to report on the state of some training camp going on, and wanted a few students to prove he was actually doing his job. Well, a friend of mine worked at the front desk and called me and my buddies... we were all totally smashed on a jug of Capt. Morgan we'd gotten that afternoon.

So we all got on the evening news sports section, looking like a bunch of drunk idiots... err, I mean, college students. I even got to say something, but be damned if I remember what.

I was on tv when I was a kid living in Japan - I was part of an English lesson. They had a bunch of us foreigners acrt out a scene where I was the bratty little sister barging into the older kids' softball game. I have pictures but of course I was under 18.... Then, I was almost in commercials after me and my friends tried out for this noodle company or something. They came to my house and offered me the job but my mom said no, something about wanting me to have a normal life or something. Damnit.

My TiVo is already scheduled... unfortunately, I have no way to make screencaps...

When I was in college, my glee club was in the Macy*s Thanksgiving Day Parade, so I was on screen for a couple of minutes there.

When I was a kid, I'd say about 2 or 3 years old, I was on Romper Room. Talk about making a fool of yourself. I wouldn't let go of the teachers hand at all during the show. I have very vague memories of it.

Other than that, I've been on the news a couple of times. Once for a teen convention that I attended in School. I can't remember the other times.

Apparently once there was a shot of Keri looking very excited (we were behind the net) and me fiddling with my etch-a-sketch. Don Cherry wasn't very happy about it and made us sit further back for the rest of the season.

I was once on The Price Is Right (Original air date Dec 8, 2003 Show 2712K)

I sucked. COmpletely

Was the 2nd last person called. Bid $25 over o the luggage for my first, and had no idea what the stupid hibachi-like Grill/Smoker thingy was worth so I bid $420.

Took the "Contestants not appearing on stage will receive..." walk of shame.

I did though get His/Hers watches & a toaster, tea kettle, cappichino machine & waffle iron - worth about $850US. So a mere $253.50 USD later (Fuck the IRS) I got my "winnings"

Oh well, was a HELL of an experience, and one hell of a memory. The adrenalin goes apeshit in that moment - no wonder people on the show look stoned out/stunned to hell.

Way back when I was managing a bicycle shop I used to appear now and then on a local morning show. The experience was frustrating to say the least. The segment producer would ask me for a topic suggestion I would suggest one. The first segment was "buying your child's first two wheeler". The segment would get approved I was contacted to arrange the props.. bikes, helmets, accessories .... you get the idea.
Now when the day of the segment rolled around I'd run through the piece with the producer hitting the key points on safety, fit, bells, streamers, etc.
The "talent" would never ever ever take 30 seconds to run through the spot so he would be confused.... Producer can't have talent looking stupid (a little late for that in my opinion but hey it's their show) So we have props set cute kids on loan from cameraman and clueless talent. With seconds to go producer says "we're taking a different angle on the segment ... less depth more fun"
What proceeds is some sort of cross between jackass and the darwin awards. Talent introduces segment introduces me, mentions shop (good so far) introduces kid. Kneels next to kid (who has never had a two wheeler but is very keen). Talent challenges kid to race around the deck (this was an out door shoot). I quickly get a helmet for the child and take him to the smallest bike which already had training wheels. Talent proceeds to 2nd smallest bike also with training wheels with a child's helmet perched upon the very top of his very hard hair and within moments races the thing over the stairs falling on his face well before the child even gets his bike going. They quickly throw back to the studio or the weather or something. Bike is scratched, training wheels bent, helmet scuffed, Talent tore their shirt but no real harm done. Talent starts swearing at me as if this was my set up. producer refuses to reimburse shop for damaged goods despite that being in our written agreement.
I leave with the damaged goods and chalk it up to experience. The producer calls again 3 weeks later offers payment for the damage and wants to do another segment. This went on for several months and not once was any real "content" or "information" ever conveyed to the audience. Never Again!
At least my mom was proud.

In my youth I was at a fire at the local shopping center. As I walked past the camera, my head went across the bottom of the screen, very visible.

In 1997 (I had to google for the date), I was at the Lennox Lewis - Andrew Golota fight in Atlantic City. A friend was part of the television production group. Since the fight lasted all of 15 seconds (OK, maybe 90), HBO had a lot of time to fill. After it was all over, and the crowds had dispersed, the hosts were doing a protracted wrap up of the fight. I had nothing to do while the production crews wrapped up, so me and another person went over to watch the facility staff break down the ring. As we did I noticed the bright lights off in the distance. Two days later watching a replay of the fight, there I am walking into the picture in the background. If you didn't know it was me, you would have just ignored it.

No speaking roles yet.

when i was 8 or 9 the republican national convention was in houston (i think it was 1992) my grandma was the republican delegate from illinois so she got us tickets since we lived in houston at the time.

our seats were directly behind a couple of the big news cameras and i was leaning on the railing in front of us watching the people giving their speeches and the news cameras kept turning around and filming me, if I looked at them or anything they would tell me to just keep watching the person giving a speech

when my family got home we had like 15 messages on our ansering machine... I had been put on the national broadcast of the convention and had a total of like 5 minutes air time in 10-15 second pieces thruought the whole convention coverage... but of course nobody ever tapes the conventions so i never got to see the footage...

my freshman year in college my buddies and I were blasting the Texas Tech Fight song at the UT people camped out in one of the parking lots and the weather guy for the local news asked us to come and talk with him about the game weather... so we got to be on briefly for that ...

Just one stint on ESPN, they were showing a Cardinal game and I had lucked into some really good seats along the first base line.

Local television I've been on twice.

Once when I marched in a parade and once when I went to court.

They usually film the 'felony' court. Stuff like hot checks and sex offenders and such, but that day 'felony' court wasn't in session, but traffic court was and I made the cut.

When I was little my dad owned an ad agency (in a small town) and we used to do little bumps between local news segments or as they went out to commercial. I was in several of those as the happy little kid with a red wagon or lemonade stand or whatever. Some of the bumps were incidental shots; others were completely staged.

As an adult, I've been on Good Morning Memphis and another morning news show in Memphis that I can't remember the name of. Both performing with my band. Let me tell you a 4AM load-out getting ready to hit the stage at 7AM ready to sing is not my favorite thing to do. They said they'd server breakfast. They didn't tell us that they'd also be feeding around 100 homeless people they use as the audience for the show. That wasn't so bad ... I know a couple of the homeless around town. What was bad was the food ... left over Krystal chicks and biscuits. The reporters and staff for the station got catered breakfast from someplace. Classy.

Good Morning Memphis got great wacky shots of the singer and bass player; but for some reason they focused on my left hand and the drummers kick pedal. What kind of director decides to devote 20 seconds of air time to a keyboard players left hand and a drummers kick pedal? Oh well, at least it's air time. My favorite part though was when one of the anchors "interviewed" the band. We had to submit short questions with answers that they could ask us. Yep ... we did our own interview (which is not too unusual). However, she strayed from the questionnaire anyway. She asked if we considered ourselves metal. The singer just sort of laughed at the camera and said we were not in any way metal ... but we could play some if they wanted. (Some of you guys have heard us ... we're not metal). The second morning show was pretty much the same.

I was interviewed a couple of months or so ago about my daughter's day care. It's a Spanish Immersion program. All of the teachers are from Spanish speaking countries. I think it's probably the best thing ever for a kid. That's pretty much the entire interview.

Other than that, I've been in various other bands at events covered by local news. At the one shot at Graceland you can see my back with a "My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult" T-shirt. The next week there was a memo about a dress code for performers at Graceland. It's all my fault ...

I was on once as a 12 yr old for the stained glass window that the select artist from the 5th and 6th grades made for over the front doors at our school. That window is still there with my initials in it.

I was in later at 15 for going to State in the Wisconsin DNR speaking contests.

I was on at 17 for being involved, with a few other homeschool students in a NASA experiment.

I was on at 19 on a program regarding gun control. They interviewed me as an employee but when they showed the program they had clipped what I had said and changed the order of things in such a way that I appeared to be purchasing a handgun. I was a little upset but it opened my eyes to the deceptiveness of the news that we receive.

Finally I was shown the the video clip but was not interviewed at all when I was working for "Right to Life" in the county fair.

- It's easy to get on the news in our town. Pop. 10k - used to be Pop. 9000 when we moved here in '83.

I learned that one in 6th grade, when I had a photo in the newspaper. The quotes and story in the aritcle were completely scrambled and confused. A valuable early lesson.

My two appearances were both high school band related.

First, our jazz band played a song on Toronto's early morning wake up show "Breakfast Television". We were followed by an expert on swords.

Second, and slightly more exciting, was when a TV movie was shot at our school. You can look it up on imdb.

About a hundred of us were paid as extras for a pep rally, hallways and graduation scene. As a member of our school band, we got to mime playing at the Graduation ceremony and you can see me in the background playing trombone, tapping my foot to the music.

As a humbling balance to this early fame, I've never been shown on the jumbotron at a baseball game, and the lady on Romper room never ever saw me through the magic mirror and said my name.

Yeah, newscrews like "heartwarming" stuff like that. I've been working at a school for homeless children; yesterday, we had graduation ceremonies, and one of the big-city news stations from 75 miles away showed up. I'm on stage, so I'll probably appear.

Over the years, I've gotten on television a lot, mainly by accident. If there's a camera around, it generally ends up pointing at me, go figure. Problem is, I never see it. Other people do, and tell me about it.

A few years ago, I had a website that mapped and rated public restrooms in my fair community (had a nice point-and-click image map of the downtown area), and a local TV crew actually came over to my house, which was fun. I told them I was "flushed with pride." It aired, but I never saw it.

Back when the iMac was introduced, a camera crew caught me at a Mac-only computer store in San Jose on the day of the SF MacWorld, looking for man-in-the-street quotes on the future of the iMac. I gave them some. People told me they saw me on the toob, but I never did.

I was helping restock a beloved local bookstore that had been damaged in an earthquake when a camera crew came by doing a segment. I _did_ see this one, but my spot was all of about three seconds of me stocking shelves.

Aside from that, I've done a lot of public access TV, but that doesn't really count because maybe 50 people are watching, if you're lucky. It's fun to do, though, because even with a piddly little show it's easy to get local politicians and just plain strange people to come in and talk and answer your weird questions on camera. I interviewed city council candidates, school board candidates (icky people), minor league ball players, bureaucrats, science fiction writers, people who made fire-breathing robots out of ripped-off motorbike parts (Survival Research Labs), B-movie directors, and more. I recommend it highly.

i've been on local and national television too many times to count. however, they were all very brief and few featured me in any meaningful way.

- when i was six i signed up for "mutton-bustin". it's a competition where little kids ride sheep for a rodeo event instead of a bucking bronco. mainly done for the "aww.... isn't that cute?" factor" anyway, i did it, and was on the tv broadcast.

- i was captain of my highschool football team, and our squad was one of the best in a football-mad state. several of our games were televised and i was usually tapped by my coach to provide soundbites to the local reporters for the evening news.

- my father is a basketball coach at a fairly high level. he is on local market tv all over the country as a matter of course, national sometimes too. after a big win, i'm sometimes one of those crazy yahoos in the background while they're trying to interview the players/coaches.

- i'm a magnet for home-runs and foul balls that get televised on ESPN and elsewhere. i'd say i've been on ESPN (just as a nobody in the background) 10-15 times. me and my dad went to a Tokyo Swallows game last summer and made it onto the local Japanese broadcast... it never fails.

The only time I have been on tv was when I was in fifth grade and one of the local tv station's weatherguy came to my school to teach us about weather. That night on the news he did the forecast and then showed the footage of his visit to my school. My head was on the bottom edge of the screen for about 5 seconds. My parents taped it, but I think the tape is gone, probably recorded over with some thing else.

When I was 17 my social sciences teacher was interviewed by a news team and they wanted some classroom shots for ambience, so my huge hair was on the national news.

About three years ago I was on the Stockholm-Helsinki ferry with the amateur theatre group, we were all dressed out and partying like mad. On the ship was a German film crew making a documentary about Baltic ferries (more fun than it sounds like, believe me) and our gang was ever so photogenic and interesting, not to mention we had a few Germans among us who loved to talk with the film crew. Thanks to our contacts in Germany we got a tape of the show and we were all over it. So I've been on German TV dressed out as Severus Snape, on a Baltic ferry, singing. Top that for weirdness!

I used to play a horn in a small jazz combo, they'd get us on air for local and semi-local stations. Not exactly international coverage, but I don't figure there was any need to broadcast my ugly mug around the world every time I solo'd (the cameraman liked close-ups of me doing my Dizzy impression).

I was recently seen on TV during coverage of a local museum program for fifth grade students. The program takes groups from urban and suburban schools and pairs up calsses (this program is part of a settlement regarding racial integration in schools.) They learn about Mars and the Moon, and the program ends with the construction of "Marsville," a city of plastic domes in the gym of a local university. I was in the background helping a group of kids, and trying to hide from the camera the fact that my pants were falling down. This is the third year in a row that I was seen in the background during coverage of the program.

This winter, I was visible the same local news station when, during a between-classes walk to get food, I noticed a camera set up with a reporter talking, and assumed that the quality of the broadcast would be improved if I jumped into the camera's view, yelled, "I'm on TV!" and continued walking.

I was on "The Home Show" a few times, first, they had me on as a person getting her hair cut from The Flowbee Hair Cutting System, it attached to your vacuum, the vacuum would suck up the hair that was cut off. I was asked to come back and and do a couple of segments, I did two of those. The first one was a segment with Denise Austin and her latest workout video. The second one was on Paul Johnson, who made music with spoons and bleach bottles. Not very exciting.
I was on "The Newlywed Game", didn't win, but we got alot of stuff - and when it reaired, we got all new stuff.
