My first language is English. I speak a bit of Spanish. I used to be nearly fluent, but it has been a good decade since that point. I was in Puerto Rico this past weekend and it has revitalized my craving for foreign languages.
english is my second language...it's also my only language, which becomes a problem at times :P
i can speak english obviously, a bit of spanish, and i can speak incredibly fluent pig latin....ig pay atin lay if you will
Heh somebody beat me to the ig pay atin lay.
I speak English and I'm currently attempting to learn Spanish(3rd week into the course so suffice to say I can barely say my name and thank you). Living where I live it's going to be vital to learn Spanish in very short order so I'm trying to learn now so maybe in 2-3 years I'll be fluent. And I'd have plenty of people I know that speak Spanish so I wouldn't have a problem staying in practice should I learn it. After I accomplish the Spanish goal I want to learn Italian and Portugese. I've always said if I ever did any traveling I'd want to hit South America first and then hit up the southern countries in Europe. But my cavaet has always been I will never go any place where I can't speak the language well enough to go out and REALLY explore the country and keep myself out of trouble. |
Oh and does anybody know any message boards good for practicing Spanish with other people who are learning? That would be a good idea considering I spend most of my day on the computer anyway.
I speak, New Jersian (all dialects), New Yorker (all dialects), Pennsylvanian (both Philly and Pitt dialects) and New Englander (all dialects).
English, a little Spanish, Appalachian, Southern U.S. drawl.
Just english (came to NZ at 8) and mandarin, thank God that I do because there's absolutely no way I could've learnt it otherwise. Very incompatible with languages.
English, some German and a little Indonesian
Well, I'd love to say I speak three languages: swedish, english and german, but every german I've met would know that's a lie. I guess two languages is what I speak...
English, quite a bit of German, and next to no French.
English and some spanish. Wish my spanish was better. Wish I could instantly learn Latin. That would be boss.
fluently (kinda) amurican and french.
claims any real competence in either of the last two is dangerously close to a lie but: i can read german i can work out italian to a lesser extent. |
Spanish and I'm learning French (Hoping to take an extended vacation in Paris studying art)
English and Vietnamese fluently, and some spanish. If a person speak spanish really slow..and..use..really...simple..word...I..may..be..able...to..under...stand...what..he/she...is..talking...about.
Engilsh (native)
French Latin (read only) I can understand Spanish if it is spoken slow enough. I'm taking Ancient Greek and Modern German next semester. |
I used to speak Ukrainian, but after many many years its all forgotten. :(
I used to be passably fluent in German, but I've lost most of it in the ten years since I graduated high school. I'd like to pick it back up though.
Took three years of Latin in school too. When I went to Mexico, I was able to pick out alot of words and understand what they meant, which was way cool, since I've never taken Spanish. I've kept the Latin with me better than the German. |
Lesse, English. Also, I took two years of French in High School, and I studied there for a month. I can pick out stuff with a dictionary, and order food.
I used to be at least marginal in Spanish years ago, but doubt I'd be able to now. Other than that and English, I still remember Latin, which has come in handy when picking out some Italian and trying to remember Spanish.
English
Spanish a bit of French a bit of Dutch |
English, especially the American variation
Hungarian I only saw one other person mention Hungarian ...I guess we're rare ;) I grew up speaking almost only Hungarian at home; my parents are Hungarian, I was born in Austria but we came to the US when I was almost 4yo ...yikes, over 50yrs ago!; whenever I have to speak to a "real" Hungarian, I'm concerned that my lack of knowledge of common colloquial speech and words will make me sound foreign to them, but they usually say my speech is pretty good. I can stumble thru reading it too, but since I never did much of that, reading is tougher; writing it is really challenging for me. |
In order of clarity and diction:
English Spanish German French and my favorite but least used is Thai. I would like to learn Russian :D |
english and welsh.
My first language is English and I took High School spanish way back when, does that count? :-p I didn't think so.
Considering it IS a language and it is "spoken" (meaning: to communicate) I'm fluent in American Sign Language.
Of course, English. I also know basic French, Italian and Spanish. I've also studied Latin, German and Russian. |
