Next Up: Technosexual

I was reading Wired today and they mentioned the term 'technosexual'. I had never heard of it, so I did a quick google and came up with this:

(from TheWordSpy)
Quote:

Earlier this year [2004], people who spend less money on mousse and more on mouse pads decided that if the style-savvy guys could get their hands on a marketable brand name, then the uber-geeks could certainly come up with something better than nerd: Thus, the term "technosexual" was born.

A technosexual is not simply in touch with his feminine side but is connected to it on multiple platforms. He likes gadgets that have lots of gigabytes but are still small enough to fit in his pocket.
—Eric Edwards, "A new kind of lingo for those who tango," Orlando Sentinel (Florida), May 7, 2004
As I understand it, a technosexual is a metrosexual that has cool geek gadgets (that's how Wired explained it). I think the random terms like this are just getting worse and worse... I'm not sure why they have to put '-sexual' on the end of things now. If a technosexual is just a metrosexual with geek toys, that means a technosexual cannot be gay (as a metrosexual is not gay). What happens if you're gay and you have cool geek toys? What random term do you get then?

Has anyone else heard of this? Do you think you're a 'technosexual'?

I just let games like these slide.

I find they are by products of the weak who need to define, segment, decide and analyze. Their is no need to point at me and decide on a check list who or what I am. I enjoy technology, I read gizmodo and engagment web logs. It has nothing to do with my sexuality and more to do with what I find enjoyment in. I also like cologne, enjoy shaving and like clothes: I am not a meterosexual (which I find more offensive, I have never been called one)

People need to stop trying to be so linear, I can give you definate answers on what I feel pasionatly about, what makes me feel good and try to explain to you my emotions but looking back at me and telling me I am nothing more then a trend-o-sexual is a reflection of the interpreter.

What? Techno-Geek wasnt good enough?

Liking technology has nothing to do with sexuality.
Liking cloths has nothing to do with sexuality.

Whey the hell are they adding everything to "-sexual" suddenly?

Because sex sells.

Isn't the whole nerd chic thing played out anyway?

It won't be until I can say "I was a nerd before it was the cool thing to do, you're just a poser nerd!"

Technosexual --- tech----no----sex---as---usual

sadistikdreams 01-02-2005 09:42 PM

I find that NERD-BOMBER works fine.

Giltwist 01-02-2005 10:17 PM

Technosexual? Pfft. Heck no.

However, I'd like to point out that I wear a 512MB jump drive at all times. I refer to it as my +1 Amulet of Geekiness.

neekap 01-03-2005 01:54 AM

I prefer technojock myself. :)

I propose a life in jail sentance to anyone that adds the suffix "-osexual" to any more words from here on out.

Glory's Sun 01-03-2005 10:11 AM

just what society needs.. a new label

Jonsgirl 01-03-2005 10:48 AM

From now on I'm going to be a Me-sexual.
See, a Me-sexual, is someone who just wants to be themselves and doesn't want a label, but since the world has to give us a label anyway, we choose this one before someone else does.

Slavakion 01-06-2005 06:07 AM

I think I'd rather be labeled a nerd.

bendsley 01-06-2005 06:32 AM

I prefer Bi-sexual. If I can't find it, I'll buy it.

or

Trisexual. I'll try (most) anything once.

Metrosexuals, technosexuals, tits. All cheap ways for hack tabloid writers to fill up a few dreary column inches. It annoys me beyond belief. I need to go smoke a cigarette and calm down.

warrrreagl 01-06-2005 06:52 AM

Most media attempts to categorize a group of people loses a lot in the translation, so I stay away from those "new and cool" terms until they've been in the vernacular for awhile.

Giltwist, I do like the +1 Amulet of Geekiness, I keep mine in my Bag of Holding - now off for a 2d6 saving roll on whether the first smoke of the day will cause me 1d4 minutes of dizzy buzz.

Only nerds would laugh at this. *raises hand*

JumpinJesus 01-06-2005 03:04 PM

What will eventually happen is that they'll become so type specific that we're gonna end up with terms such as creamsiclesexual and indiemoviesexual.

bermuDa 01-06-2005 03:15 PM

i think adding "sexual" to the word is pointless, as it has nothing to do with sexuality. Technosexual, metrosexual... whatever happened to "straight guy who knows how to dress himself" or "nerd"....

I think techophile would be a better name for this group...

That would be too politically incorrect due to its similarity to the word pedophile.

wolf 01-07-2005 11:24 AM

I thought it meant that you use technology for sex.... Guess I'm out of the loop....

Cynthetiq 01-07-2005 03:35 PM

it's all MARKETING
