Just a shout about hackers.
Seems DaveDavies.com was hacked yesterday by hackbrasil.com. From what I've read they hacked a few Chris Locke (webmaster of DD site) sites. and wanted to warn everyone that it seems they are very active and nasty fellows.
So just wanting to give a warning out. Maybe see if anyone else has heard of these idiots. |
There are websites that show who hacked what and when, and are updated daily. Sadly, this is just one of MANY daily.
|
could you list a few, that would be interesting.
Does it show hacked and attacked (DOS) or just hacked? /my site got DOS'd two days ago. |
I'll do better I'll give you the link to Dave's board where they talk about it and there are links to the hackers. One gives a list of sites they hacked, But I ain't going there for 2 reasons 1) don't know what ya may get at their site and 2) I don't know nothing about hacking and don't wanna.
Link: http://www.davedavies.com/new_discus/ go to discussion U SuxA that talks about it. here's a ccp of the post on how they did it. " By GusPolidor (Gusp) on Thursday, July 22, 2004 - 12:09 am: Dunno if this can help; was on a forum with a guy on another site they hacked. He says they got in on his site forum was by using a php code in their signature and posts, and saved that code with a .jpg extension and uploaded it with the normal e-xoops file uploader to the server, then they executed the script by calling that "picture" from one their own servers. He said he disabled all file- /picture uploads and deleted all "pictures" (including avatars) he didn't know. Imagine if they channeled all this energy into curing cancer. " LINK: http://www.zone-h.org/en/defacements...defacer=M4F14/ supposedly this is the link that tells what they hacked. Just letting you all know about these guys, in case you didn't. |
Maybe this is a stupid question.
But who is Dave Davies? anyone special? |
Yea - you have to be up to date for anything you run - especially webservers/web apps like bulletin boards. New exploits are found for them with surprisingly regularity.
And as for the "if they put their energy into cancer" comment, most of the people don't have the skills to dig through code, find a vulnerability, and write an exploit for it - they just tend to use other people's exploits. Some of the larger defacement mirrors have shut down in recent years, mostly due to lack of interest. How many times can you go mirror a webpage that some 12 year old kid defaced to say "omg im so kool! chek me out, d00d!" before you want to kill them? Not too many times ;) |

the better phrase in this situation is 'crackers' - hackers usually means the people with skills but good or harmless intentions that would avoid such unsavory actions, much like the character in Wargames that had no intention of starting a war or hacking a DOD system.

A guy named "Gibson" defending "Hackers."
That's not just silly, it's 1990's cheesey kinda silly. :) |
hahahaha Good one Journeyman, thats pure comedy right there. hahaha.
Speed_Gibson, you're right though. They just use the cracks to try to show how "Great" they are. |

hahahahahaha exactly. Awesome call, Journeyman. Most are script kiddies pure and simple. I went through that phase.. I'd kick my own ass if I was still there ;) Hacking's taken on a new meaning for me.. the pre-media meaning.. where it just means working on something (hacking at the linux kernel == working on it). And deeper into Nerdism I go.... |
