McGill Uni. & Montreal

Anyone go there, or just care to comment?
Anyway, Montreal is a sweetass city -- supposed to have great nightlife and the drinking age is 18. Then again it also gets fucked up cold in the winters, but I'd deal.

McGill sucks. Go McMaster! :P

But seriously Montreal is a great city, relics of the old europe. Be sure to check out all the places along side the St. Lawerence river...

Hey I'd love to hear about McMaster too, what was your experience there like?

shoe 01-21-2004 08:48 PM

Oh yes montreal is great - i live there . Although the winters get annoying.. you get used to them. Although i cant really comment on McGill, i'd be happy to answer any Montreal related questions you have .

Montreal rules. Easy access to weed if that is your poison. Drinking age is 18, plenty of clubs and lounges to party at. The winters are cold, but you spend it mostly indoors, and we have plenty of great things during the summer outdoors.

how's the skiing? live music scene & arts?

lurkette 01-22-2004 06:23 AM

I didn't go there, but two of the people I work with did and they loved it. I had a chance to visit Montreal and walk around the campus last year, and it was very appealing.

I went to McMaster.

The campus itself is great, quite beautiful, like a city within a city. The programs are top notch - medicine, engineering, nursing, commerce, Arts and Science, Natural Sciency, Social Science, Humanities, etc, etc.

The time i spent at "Mac" was without a doubt, the time of my life and would love to go back some day to learn without pressure.

The only draw back to Mac, is that it is located in Hamilton which albeit an honest city, Hamilton is NOT Montreal or Toronto.

But, I actually prefer McMaster to the University of Toronto (I went there too). Mac has a feel to it that U of T will never have. Mac is more intimate, more a campus unto itself. U of T is woven right into downtown Toronto. While U of T is the premiere University in Canada (arguably), I think I would choose Mac over U of T. It was the running joke when i went to Mac that you could die in the halls at U of T and they'd just step over your body.

And keep in mind, Hamilton is only an hours drive from Toronto's life. McMaster is also in the west end (Westdale) of Hamilton which is very picturesque. The university was actually built on land owned by the botanical gardens at one time.

Tough choice. Toronto is (not meaning to brag) one of the most amazing cities in North America. It has so much to offer, so much energy, the people are very interesting, it's a very much alive city. But as universities go, McMaster is better.

Ah the memories.......they come back.

No it's not. Many of the provinces require you to be 19.

rmarshall 01-24-2004 06:41 PM

I went to Concordia. But I went to parties at McGill. Does that count?

Drinking age in Quebec is 18. Most of the rest of Canada the drinking age is 19, as far as I know.

Wine and beer can be bought at just about every corner grocery.

Bars close at 3:00AM.

The place is made for university students!!:D

I'm there right now - actually at the John Molson School of Business. Where they have the top business schools in Canada. The only downside about Concodia is that it is very political as shown in the protest in Sept 2002 - Link to CBC article.
