Are you staying in a dorm? As for the start date, that varies from school to school. Check their calendar.

Check the website for the school.. They'll have a calender with whatever dates are important (first day, last day, vacations, etc.)
Also, if you live on campus, they should have a page that will give you a list of stuff you can't bring into the dorms, and possibly a list of "suggested" items. Just take what you would think you would need, like bed sheets/blankets/pillows, toiletries, school supplies, etc. Talk to your roommate(s) about what they are bringing, and decide if someone is gonna bring a TV, small fridge, microwave, etc. Finally, just remember that you are there to learn, as well as to enjoy yourself as much as possible. Never forget either fact and you will love it there.

Expect a whole bunch of folks to make pretty unfortunate first impressions by demonstrating that they don't know when to say when....by getting so drunk that they make asses out of themselves. Drink (if you want to), but do not go so overboard that for the next four years you won't be able to shake the "he's the guy that our first week of school got naked, passed out in the girl's bathroom, and had to get his stomach pumped."
You've got four years to do everything, but precious few opportunities to make first impressions. Ease into it.... |

Went back to college at 47, not living in the dorm. You should have a course schedule, either printout or online. If the semester starts on a Monday, and you have a Monday class, your class meets on the first day. If you really want to make sure, call the department office.
As for materials: pens, notebooks or three-ring binders for note-taking, and that's really about it. If more is required, they'll tell you on day 1 and the student store should (doesn't always, but should) have anything else you need. Oh yeah, if you need a parking permit at that school, find out about it. The school website should have all the details. |

depending on what your major is you will have a lot more work then you expected. I am pulling at least 19 credits a semester( which is more like 22 or 23 credit hours) and working 15-25 hours a week and it takes a lot of energy to keep doing it all at a constant level

I hope so. I don't think my wife would be too thrilled, but I like to flirt with pretty young girls. Quote:

If you do your reading before class and come prepared, you can demonstrate that to your professors and they'll reward you for it. Good luck and have fun! |

Hope you know that was a joke. Didn't mean to get you in trouble with the wife.
I went to college after the service and was older than most of my classmates. They seem to look to me for the real life uses for the thing's they were learning, you know the complaint, Will I Really Need This In Real LIfe. Any way, good luck and have patience.
