Poem - 12th Grade English Class Assignment.
Lacking ideas and short on time. Anybody feel like posting a favorite poem of theirs? Anything that sparks thought, emotion, anything at all. If this thread dies doesn't really bother me, jsut thought i'd give it a shot Thanks in advance, i'd prefer shorter poems (=less time reading!)

Erm... there's two "Poem of the week" posts from the past 10 days alone. Either of those are pretty short and quite memorable, though Larkin's may not be suitable for school.
There was also a recent thread devoted entirely to poems that people memorized. However, here is an especial favourite of mine. He Wishes For The Cloths Of Heaven by William B Yeats Had I the heavens' embroidered cloths, Enwrought with golden and silver light, The blue and the dim and the dark cloths Of night and light and the half-light, I would spread the cloths under your feet: But I, being poor, have only my dreams; I have spread my dreams under your feet; Tread softly because you tread on my dreams. Quite beautiful if you ask me. Mr Mephisto |

"how to tell a true war story" by Tim O'Brien
Not a poem but envokes a boat load of emotion. |
Dunno who it was by, but I read this one way back in high school...
Carnation milk is the best in the land, Here I sit with a can in my hand, No teats to pull, no hay to pictch, You just poke a hole in the sonofabitch. Honest to God...that was actually printed somewhere.... (and it wasn't a bathroom wall) |
"In a station of the metro"
The aparition of the faces in the crowd; Petals on a wet black baugh. I don't know if that's how youy spell baugh... |
I don't have any poems to offer but I know how you feel. Back when I still had to do poetry in school I had a lot of trouble coming up with anything good. Good luck with the project.
