Style trends you've happily skipped
http://www.esquire.com/cm/esquire/im...stock-tips.jpg
Yes, these. They're popular right now and I cannot for the life of me understand why. It's like Great Depression chic or something. And it gets better: apparently, you wear these with skinny jeans that are rolled up at the bottom to look like high-waters. http://images.jcrew.com/erez4/cache/...19a3ad193f.jpg What the living fuck? What style trends have you skipped? |
I made it through the eighties without a rat tail, and I'm a redneck.
---------- Post added at 04:38 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:37 PM ---------- Also, in this thread, we laugh at hipsters. |
Graphic t-shirts... and not just the high priced Guido Gear (TM).
I feel that paying $40 for a mass produced torso covering with an asymmetric barbed wire/wings/chains/skulls print is a lousy idea. Paying more than $20 for a t-shirt is stupid. I was incredibly disheartened to discover that a Misfits logo is to be found on an Affliction brand t-shirt. |
Condoms
Crocs The style that is particular to engineering students, which, if you are an engineering student or know any, you know what I'm talking about. Poorly fitting jeans, quasi generic sneakers, sweatshirts with the logo of your alma mater, the same haircut since 8th grade, etc... For the record: if you care even remotely about style and/or give half a thought to how you look when you leave the house, someone, somewhere thinks that you're a hipster. |
As ugly and scrawny as I am... everything is poorly fitting on me.
... I wanna party with Filtherton. |

You just need some tight leather pants, planny.
Anytime you're in the Northern Midwest you let me know. We can hit up one of the 20 shit hole bars within walking distance of my house. ---------- Post added at 05:50 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:49 PM ---------- Quote:

I'm still laughing about the "condoms" thing.

... ...why don't I have a harem? |

All of them.
If I'm ever in style, it's an accident. |

but if you did want a harem, it's quite easy to organise. I could do it at a fee if you promised not to call me a pimp. on a side note, the hammer pants are very similar to the traditional lebanese wear that were introduced by the ottomons. Hypercolor, boys... the color-changing shirts.
I happily... gleefully, even... skipped the following: Skinny Jeans Heeled sneakers and flip flops Harem Pants (my hips and ass are big enough, thank you) All things Ed Hardy, Affliction, etc. Ankle-length pants Babydoll dresses with jeans Leggings... and stirrup pants |
Thank you, Dlish. You put the culture in my life.
And Hypercolor! Hah! Righteous, Noodle. |
Glad noodle caught it. I had a Hypercolor shirt, and Hypercolor socks. Those were really cool.
Definitely did neon. I dunno, sometime in high school I stopped paying attention to what other people liked to wear and started paying attention to what I liked to wear. This usually consisted of gray slacks, some pair of funky shoes (I have some blue suede Hush Puppies, for example), a funny t-shirt, and a black cardigan. If I wear something fashionable, it's likely just because I liked the look of it or thought it would be comfy. If it isn't comfy, I'm not interested. |
This horrid mop hair style that seems to be so popular right now. It is like a fancy mullet and the girls who have it look awful.

Asian baby accessory.

I skipped the tightrolled jeans trend, but I'll be honest, it was more because I couldn't get mine tight enough...I just looked like I was getting ready for a flood.
I'm also proud to say that, with the exception of a spiral perm in junior high, I've had basically the same hairstyle since I was eight. I skipped the "big hair," the "jennifer aniston" cut, and the "color the underside of your hair a drastically different color than the rest." Although I WILL admit to playing around with my hair color when I have the money. |

I didn't catch any bullets from a disgruntled high school student in 1999. Does that make me a square?

Desert Boots are back? Used to be THE shoe to buy back in the '70's and again in the '80's because they were less than $30 and therefore had no sales tax. I skipped the designer jeans thing (i.e. Jordache etc) and the wide Legs jeans during high school. Stuck with Levi's reg fit. I WISH that I skipped the double breasted suit era of 1994 through 98. |

I've taken photos so I can shame her at some future family christmas dinner. Hee hee hee. I can't wait. |
Oh I'm with BG and Fugly on this one, I'm so fashion retarded its not even funny...hell I struggle to even get my clothes to match. I think I've looked exactly the same for about 15 years so I've probably been accidentally in line with the latest fashions but beyond that...I couldn't even hope to tell you what men's fashion is right now.
"white trash chic" that's funny...and disturbingly accurate of my own fashion sense. :D |
|
I'm pretty utilitarian in what I wear, plain colors, plan for as many pockets as I need for electronic doodads. Other than that... yeah all of them.

It always had me asking to myself, how long did she take to get that to work in such a way that it stays like that all day? |
You mean the Agent 99 "bump it" hair? My old roomie used to do that.
|
I was a teen during the 80's. I went from punk rock, to rockabilly, to new romantic, to break dancing, to metal, hell I even had a wicked mullet in the early 90's. I think I burned myself out...

I skipped distressed jeans. The hundred dollar washed with a bunch of sharp rocks, torn, and finished with sandpaper look. I do have a couple pair of ten year old, naturally worn, wonderfully soft Levi's. But they are the real thing.
I will admit to washing new jeans a couple of times before wearing them, even with a little Clorox maybe. I also dislike and don't participate in the faux poverty look in general, or the silly faux prison hip-hop style. Having been poor, the idea of suburban kids and gentrified urbanites ( who wouldn't be caught dead in a thrift store) spending hundreds of dollars to look poor does not make sense to me. Sheesh, talk about the high cost of living. It's even expensive to look poor. Quote:
A fashionista is really nothing but a lemming in clothes.:shakehead: Lindy |
Ultra low-profile shoes like those brown or black Puma "ballet flats" I see dudes wear on campus.
What the hell? If I wanted to wear leather socks, I'd be an elf. No padding with that footwear. |

Fluorescent shoes. Not just this brand, but this was the first one I thought of.
