follower of the child's crusade?

funny thing happened yesterday night

I was sitting in the kitchen, watching some old shows on youtube and I heard this noise.

I looked down the corridor, and what do I see - a pair of eyes looking at me through my letterbox. I get up, go open the door, in time to see the door of the flat of the guy who lives above me slamming shut

Wierd or what? I wonder if he's some kind of peeping tom?

Why would you have a mail slot in your bedroom?

Strange I'd be having a brief conversation with the guy. No hostility, no macho ego bull shit, just simply "why were you looking in my mail slot? Do me a favor don't do that again... please." Being assertive usually works well in these situations.

Now see, the first thing I would have thought is that there was an animal trying to get it. A pair of eyes could have been a bear or a cougar, not that there have been any bear or cougar sightings in my neighborhood. The last thing I would have done is go open the door. With my bad luck it would have been a bear. Kudos to being brave enough to check it out. Maybe the neighbor upstairs saw the bear looking in your door and ran and hid in his place. The possibilities.......

Where do you live that you'd suspect a bear or a cougar before a human?

Living in Chicago, that train of thought seems a bit derailed to me. Make me understand because unless by cougar you meant a woman in her 40s...I don't.

Ugh, seeing her makes me so sad. Look how pretty she used to be before stardom set in:

oops, my mistake.

SF, take a strip of paper and tape a set of eyes looking back at him.

I always keep a strip of masking tape over my peephole thingy on my front door, as it is possible to look in from the opposite side of the door. I don't do unexpected visitors. So when I do get company, I just wait a minute then quickly look to see who it is. Then tape it back, acting like I'm not home.

Yay for parking in the garage.

Yeah, that's *not* cool. There is no good reason for that, and plenty of very bad ones. You should make sure that someone 'in real life' knows that this happened, and either talk to him in the way Tully suggested, or leave a note on his door to the same effect.

im sure with some string attached to the mail slot, a can of pepper spray and some ingenuity, you could rig something rather delightful up.

Well, too bad you didn't go up to his place and ask WTF what was all about. If he does that again, don't hesitate. Peeping through someone's door is a big no-no. Sure, he could be a concerned neighbour for all I know, but then you can always knock instead of pushing your face through the mail thingy.

My sister lives in North Vancouver. They have a by law there which fines people for not taking the fruit off of their backyard trees (crab apples, peaches what have you) because it attracts bears. Her garbage cans have been hauled off to the park so many times by black bears, that they built a special shed to hold them.

There was a cougar mauling not too long ago, of a woman jogger. My sister lives approx 10 km from downtown.

Oh, I get it now, the bears built the shed.

P.S. It was purely meant as a joke, not as the grammar police. It was merely the vision I had in my head of putting bears in a shed to keep them out of the garbage.
