what would you do?
so today i went down to intersection where the homeless guys stand and i stood there for a few hours with the sign i made:
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y24...b/bored002.jpg. the reactions i got were pretty interesting. most people wouldn't even look at me. many smiled and laughed and waved. five people tried to give me money. they didn't understand when i wouldn't take it. one guy yelled "get a fucking job." about nine people took a picture. some folks talked to me, they didn't understand what i was doing, if i was begging or not. a few cops came by, one smiled and gave me a thumbs up, one guy looked a bit frustrated, didn't say anything to me, wrote something down and drove off. i don't think the majority of the folks actually read the sign. of those that did, i dont think many knew what to make of it. i think the "god bless" at the bottom threw them off. so...if you saw a guy standing there holding that cardboard sign, and you actually read it, what would you do? |
I would probably laugh and wave at you. I usually do read the signs panhandlers hold. My brain just can't ignore written language like that.

Give him this:
Nice one. I like it. |
That's cool and creative, squeeeb. I would laugh and smile, but my reaction would depend on what the person looked like: A bum using reverse psychology like Wile E. Coyote for the ever elusive spare change, or a whipper snapper who was fucking shit up? Yay for chaos.
Given the right mood, though, I would wonder about how much spare time you had. |
I would laugh to myself, and maybe wave.
When I was in Berkeley a man had a sign that read "I bet you a dollar you read this sign." A lot of the street kids had signs that said they wanted money for acid or marijuana. I like it better when people are at least honest about their intent. |

Interesting social experiment.
I would read the sign out of boredom while waiting for the light. But I would assume you either A. were actually in need and were doing it as a novelty or B. had wayyy too much time on your hands. |
 That's awesome. I'm almost tempted to do it myself.
|
i would definitely give you props for the creativity. i enjoy sitting on the corner and just waving at people to see their reactions myself.
there is a cute little homeless girl downtown here that will tell you a joke for a quarter. i've spent about $5 on her now. i think i'm flirting with her but i'm not sure... |
Something like that around here will get you on tv on a slow news day.
Cool. |
