"I totally understand OJ."

Hulk Hogan has gone and done lost his damn mind.

Quote:

HULK Hogan is sounding homicidal over the way his wife Linda dumped him, forced him out of his $18 million mansion, allegedly started spending his money at the rate of $40,000 a month and dating "some shaggy-haired pool boy 30 years her junior," Rolling Stone reports. "I could have turned everything into a crime scene, like OJ, cutting everybody's throat," he told the magazine. "You live half a mile from the 20,000-square-foot home you can't go to anymore, you're driving through downtown Clearwater and see a 19-year-old boy driving your Escalade, and you know that a 19-year-old boy is sleeping in your bed, with your wife . . . I totally understand OJ. I get it." He and Linda are battling it out in a Florida divorce court, where Linda's attorney claims she's entitled to use the car and that Hogan's claims against her are merely an attempt to control her love life.

HULK: I COULD KILL LIKE OJ- New York Post
I've never been divorced (and hope never to be), but I find this in extremely poor taste. It might be one thing to say that sort of thing to a close friend, but to a reporter?

As a guy who's never (hopefully) going to be in this position, is it a common feeling? Am I overreacting?

Plan9 04-15-2009 10:57 AM

Have you seen Suburban Commando? He lost his mind years ago.

...

Understanding OJ: Things NOT to say aloud. To anybody. Ever. That's silly on the level of making a "I'll Seung-Hui Cho the shit outta you!" comment to a kid that parking space jumps you at Virginia Tech.

...

Sure, the feeling is there. That's normal. You watch the life you spent years to build fall apart in what seems like minutes. Rage and feelings of betrayal are pretty rational. Acting on them? Not so much.

Articulating it to the press is just bad juju. Unless you want to build an insanity defense later.

I'd probably lose my mind, too, if all that happened to me.

Strange Famous 04-15-2009 11:50 AM

Well, making death threats in the media isnt going to exactly HELP his cause in court I would guess...

Manic_Skafe 04-15-2009 12:33 PM

Gotta give him credit for regaining his title as the most embarrassing Hogan as his daughter almost gave him a run for his money with her "music" career:

Although, considering that this came from a rag like the New York Post, who knows what he actually said.

The_Jazz 04-15-2009 12:42 PM

Well, maybe his son Nick can be the stand-in for Al Cowlings.

/too soon?

Glory's Sun 04-15-2009 03:23 PM

you know that whole "anything you say can be used in a court of law" statement? Someone forgot that.

doesn't matter if it's criminal or not.. his wife's attorney is going to repeat this shit over and over until she gets every last time he made.

SecretMethod70 04-15-2009 03:33 PM

From what I hear, his soon-to-be ex-wife is a complete bitch, but this is a colossally stupid thing to say.

Charlatan 04-15-2009 03:50 PM

Of course, when she turns up dead, he will not look good.

Very stupid thing to say in public. Much worse to say to a reporter.

His divorce proceedings will not go well.

Plan9 04-15-2009 04:21 PM

"Ya can't benchpress your way outta this one!"

Arnie flick, but still applicable.

fresnelly 04-15-2009 04:28 PM

If I recall correctly, Chris Rock had a bit in one of his HBO specials joking the exact same sentiment.

It's all context I guess. I wonder if Hulk is a fan and was channeling the bit.

It's not really that big of a deal if you ask me. He made a bad joke. I can definitely understand what that's like, but this will probably become the most costly bad joke he's ever made.

Kind of sucks that one well placed off kilter statement has the potential to crash down upon someone like this probably will for him...

I gotta agree. What, he's going to say he sympathizes with OJ then kill his wife? People bitch about divorces and their exes--a lot. I reckon I wouldn't have to look to hard in TFP to find a thread about someone bitching about an ex, sounding every bit as bitter. Frankly, you've got a bit of a right to be bitter if a divorce is sprung on you.

Well, as Cromp so graciously pointed out, I don't know about a thread, but there is this!

Plan9 04-15-2009 07:40 PM

TFP: We totally understand OJ.

biznatch 04-21-2009 06:48 AM

Might sound a bit sad, but I'm glad I'm broke: I feel a divorce coming in my own life, and I certainly don't wanna feel like OJ or Hulk, when it's over.

percy 04-21-2009 06:46 PM

I took what he said sort of like he is still in love with her, as was O.J, was jealous of her friends, again as O.J and probably going through the emotions of losing someone he cared for like O.J. I never would have thought he was implying killing his wife until the media got involved. Oh, we are such a super sensitive bunch in the 21th century aren't we?

Can't believe it made over the airways at all. Guess Obama wasn't haven't a town hall meeting that day!!

dd3953 04-21-2009 07:10 PM

i know this is a little off topic, but Chris does understand OJ.

Plan9 04-21-2009 07:41 PM

...but I understand.

Indeed.
