So who saw it? I was glued to the television tonight. It floors me every time I read or watch anything about the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo missions. To think we went to the moon in ten years, with less computing power than my laptop has. Simply amazing.

I'm watching it right now. I've always loved this sort of thing, and this documentary is really well-made. I love that they were able to interview so many of the people who worked on these projects.

I saw episode 1 (Mercury) and parts of episode 2 (Gemini). It's pretty decent so far, and it looks spectacular on HD. I found the documentary invaluable for reminding me of the facts/trivia I learned about the space program growing up but have now forgotten. There was a time where I could recite the names of the Mercury 7. Before last night, I probably would have gotten 3 or 4 at best.

It also makes me long for days where the space program and the country's investment in science and technology were very high. Just think of where we could be in space, or how much better the world could be, if R&A in this nation could have the budget that the Iraq war has had. Even for only a year.

It's on the Discovery Channel and Discovery HD. New episodes will be on the following 2 sundays at 9 pm. Obviously, check their online tv schedule to see when any reruns will be on...

I want to buy the DVDs. I grew up with NASA. The original Mercury astronauts were like rock stars. I idolized each one of them. I can recall in grade school, listening to the liftoff during class on the radio. For some of the earlier missions, we got to listen to the entire mission as they were suborbital.

Years ago I finally got to see a Shuttle liftoff. I'm sure it had a much larger impact on me than it did on my young sons at the time. It was awesome. I have a friend that was at the Cape during an Apollo night launch. Based on what I have heard, a Shuttle liftoff pales by comparison to Apollo.

I don't know that it will be on in Canada... The Discovery Channel there is different from the US. That said, it will probably make it to air eventually.

I would be very interested to see a documentary of this type from the Russian perspective. I love this series, and I think a similar one about the Russian program would be cool as well.

The miniseries is expected to be released on DVD on July 10, 2008, and on Blu-ray disc on July 24.

What's the point of getting this in Blu-Ray? It obviously wasn't recorded in high-def.. I wanted to watch it on Discovery HD but it looked the same as the SD one?
