My dad passed away last week

And I am bummed. I miss him terribly. I have no unfinished business, but it hurts like hell to not have him around.

Infinite_Loser 08-14-2006 04:38 PM

:(

Sorry to hear that.

ShaniFaye 08-14-2006 04:39 PM

Im so so sorry :icare: Dont try to push back the hurt....I have learned in the past month, its actually helped me come a long way with grieving for my grandfather...Lean on your wife, cry with her, get it out...dont keep it in, thats what she is there for

was it an unexpected death?

SirLance 08-14-2006 04:41 PM

He had a heart attack, and started to rebound, but developed an infection and died from the sepsis. He was 84 and his health had been in decline for some time, so I guess yes and no. Been preparing, but no matter how prepared you are, you're never ready.

so sorry to hear this. i went through the same with my father-in-law sveral years ago (i was very close to him) and dread the same with my own father on day.

lurkette 08-15-2006 03:29 PM

Geez, I'm really sorry to hear about this. It doesn't matter how old they were or whether you're "prepared" or not, it's so hard to lose someone you love. It's been three & 1/2 years since I lost my brother and I still miss him. Just know that it does get better, and there will come a time when you even miss the grief. Just roll with it, feel what you feel, and keep his memory alive by talking about him and remembering how present he is in all the people he touched.

whatever you need, SL...

SirLance 08-15-2006 03:42 PM

The outpouring of support here has just been phenomenal.

The good wishes really help, believe me. I have a lot of family around. I wouldn't say I'm depressed, but I am sad and I miss my dad.

pig 08-15-2006 04:00 PM

SirLance,
I have nothing to say that would edify the pain you must be feeling, but you wouldn't want that in any event. Your grief is a tribute to your father's life. I've lost family and friends, but no one in my nuclear family. I think the only consolation I could find is that he seems to have lived a full life (I hope I make it 84) and he had family that loved him to the end. My condolensces on your loss.

james t kirk 08-17-2006 04:51 PM

I am sorry for your loss.

I lost my Dad 2 years ago, and my mother 7 years ago. I still think about them every day and from time to time, get all emotional. Like now when I read your story.

Until it happened to me, I was never this way. Losing a parent changes your perspective on life in many ways.

I am not particularly religious, however, I believe that there is a spirit, and, as such, this is not goodbye, this is just "see you in a while".

mandy 08-18-2006 02:45 AM

sorry for your loss...my condolences to you and your family.
