the duke ellington thread
since i cant seem to make up my mind what to do, i decided to start a duke ellington thread. add more: this is only a tiny sampler.
1929: duke and orchestra at the cotton club (sound with a photo to stare at) cotton club stomp, misty morning, going to town, freeze and melt creole love call (with adelaide hall) yikes. 1929: same train 1930: old man blues (from an amos and andy movie) 1934: with mae west 1935: blues (with billie holliday) 1941: flamingo this song is 2 and a half minutes in the finest of tiki bars. so great. 40s: mood indigo this stuff is like opium. speaking of billie, this is pretty amazing 1957--fine and mellow

Nice! I had seen all those except for Creole Love Song, great videos.
Yeah Bobby, it's a shame how this music gets ignored, I guess it's all old news now, but it all translates to current jazz artists getting ignored. Oh well, here I am knowing i won't make any money with my music anyway

here are a few more clips. 1929: black and tan fantasy here's one of my favorites from the cotton club period east saint louis toodle-oo steely dan sped this up once. on pretzel logic i think. around 1940: cottontail 1953: daybreak express (film: d.a. pennebaker, music duke) this is fantastic. 1965:take the a train: duke orchestra with billy strayhorn on piano and a couple related treats billie holiday with the count basie orchestra: god bless the child sarah vaughn: i cry for you (late 40s) art tatum plays dvorak art tatum: she's funny that way

Art Tatum is a Grand Master at the piano......none better!!!
He can take a 12 note melody and play it with 256 notes in less time ! xoxoxoo
