Well, I was gonna make similar comments as oberon, but he beat me to it while I was away for the evening.
I've seen a fair number of routers with security flaws, and if you can compromise the router, you can then get into the machines inside.
Of course, the
best firewall is to - instead of a cable going to your router - put a loopback plug in your NIC. Ah, security. You won't have any of those damned hackers getting at you now, oh no you won't. The internet will be a bit limited, though.
