It would seem that the stacked teams have thrown things slightly out of whack. But if you think about it, it really has only helped the top 4 teams in the league anyways Lakers, Kings, Mavs, and T'Wolves. I have confidence saying that because like in the days of Jordan and the bulls dominating the league from the east, the west will probably field the next 3 championship teams, minimum.
As for the stars of today carrying the league? I think they will do a good job. I think its safe to say that Shaq is the oldest star out there. Players like Pierce, T Mac, Duncan, KG, Kobe, Baron, etc etc all still have a solid block of years left to play. On top of that you have a few early career emerging stars like Jermaine O' Neal, Ron Artest, Larry Hughes, a whole slew of players from the Clippers, Zach Randolph. The Leauge is stacked strong. Then you have rookies like BronBron, Melo, Henrich, Ford... they are all going to be awesome.
I'd say over all just stay tuned. This year is going to be a transition. Look out next year when all the stacked teams reevaluate contracts. Look for Kobe to leave L.A. and get his own gig established elsewhere.
