I myself play an angband variant called T.o.M.E or troubles of middle earth.
Better story line than Nethack IMHO.
Fav character is a martial arts master ent. Ever imagined the sight of a dragon kicking ent?
That is my fav thing about rouge likes is the use of your imagination.
