Not only that, but then the Yankees probably wouldn't re-sign Pettitte. Imagine if the Yankees sign Ramirez. The Astros trade Wagner to the Sox, who would now have a legitimate, lights-out closer, the $$ to pay Wagner AND go after Vlad. Meanwhile, Pettitte, who is looking to go to a Texas team if he doesn't stay with the Yankees, signs with Houston, who now can afford him.
The Sox and Astros benefit greatly, while the Yankees are left with a huge question mark in Ramirez and his huge salary, and no Pettitte.
Well it's a moot point, as the Yankees said theyre not interested.
