My "biggest handgun" story is pretty dull - .44 magnum. Course I should probably mention that I was 6 years old when I shot it, and could barely hold the bloody thing (there was very close parental supervision of all this. My Pop may have been psycho-cool redneck, but he wasn't about to let me hurt myself or anyone else). The scary part, and this was told to me by other members of the family as I don't actually remember doing it, I controlled it better than my 16 year old uncle did. I didn't hit the target by a mile, but I also didn't wind up taking a chunk out of my forehead with the hammer spur like he did.
Shot a 12ga shotgun for the first time a year later at 7. I was a much better shot and came in third at the turkey shoot we were at. Damn, I've been shooting a loooong time.
As an aside, all of this occurred back in the 70's when a kid with a gun was no cause for alarm.
