My wife has a 1971 442 convertible with the W-30 455 in it. It's been rebuilt and pushes about 350 horse at the REAR WHEELS. That's about 440 horse at the flywheel. It's got an Art Carr Turbo 400 automatic and a 3.72 Posi, all new Moog bushings and swaybar ends, Bilstein shocks, and we added the Olds Ram Air hood and air-cleaner set-up. She's had this car for 30 years now, and Holy Smoking Popes! When the tranny kick's down...hold on!
We were at a wedding reception sitting witha couple we know that has a C4 Corvette. The husband said that Old's engines were good for station wagons and not much else ( he's one of those know-it-all asshats). I guess it was the wrong thing to say cause my wife took offense and asked him if he wanted to see her "station wagon". They walked out and she started it...it sounds like there are a dozen monkeys beating on an aluminum garbage can when it idles. When they came back in there was no more talk about cars.
She hardly ever drives it anymore cause "It messes my hair up when the tops down".......go figure
