Inside My Heart
There is a secret place
Where dragons used to roam
Fire swamps and acid rain
And buzzards called it home
This secret place of darkness
With its troubled sky
Where dreams were always fading
And hope would always die
I laid upon a field of glass
Shattered through my skin
Agonized with my own loathe
And unabounding sin
A light once shone down through the clouds
I turned my face away
I feared the change mayhap would come
With the light of day
And yet it shone upon me bright
Warm to my very core
And though it felt so good and right
I'd felt such things before
So I turned again on you
Buried myself in earth
Until a day I could embrace
Our love's holy rebirth
And now I rise, my wings unfurled
Naked as the day
That I might hold you in my arms
And forever with you lay.
