The IRL is cool. I dont get a lot of chances to watch it, but I do follow it and catch the recaps now and then. I have traditionally been a NASCAR fan, but open wheel cars is just a different form of racing. I live in New England which is not open wheel friendly at all. I started by watching the stock cars and the supermods in Epping NH. The IRL ran at NHIS for a while and I went to one, and that was pretty cool. Open wheel racing needs to open their eyes up to young guys similar to Jeff Gordon, who dreamed of racing in open wheel but never got his chance. I think the IRL has nowhere to go but up. I've noticed the stands are getting more full every year.
I think anyone who is a racing fan needs to respect what these guys can do. 220 MPH 6-inches apart from eachother. Two wheels touch together and you are both in the wall. That is great stuff. Tremendous talent.
