Any Indy Racing League Fans here ?
I know we're a minority in the world of auto racing, but is anyone else besides me on TFP a fan of the IRL ?
For me, there are lots of reason I like IRL races...the wheel-to-wheel racing and the close finishes to name a couple. |

Sam's one of the best drivers in the IRL. Even with the old Chevy engine he was giving the Toyota & Honda teams a run for their money. I expect he will start winning now with the new Chevy.
Rumor has it that it's possible you'll see Sam in NASCAR next year. I tend to root for: Sam Hornish - great talent Al Unser Jr. - proven talent and an Indy 500 winner Sarah Fisher - I like rooting for the underdog |

yeah, i heard about that, but i think the new chevy engine (G5??) will make him stay.
i would love to see him switch! just like tony stuart! i hope he comes to dale earnhardt inc. (penzoil also sponsors a dei car but their contract ends after this yr).

What i like is that chevy can't make an engine (the gen IV (aka the gen FORD)). My guess is though hornish will skip out next year to nascar as open wheel racing in the US is taking a huge dump. As it i see it in the next 5 years it will be nascar and the ALMS that will be in the spotlight the most for auto racing here in the states.

The IRL is cool. I dont get a lot of chances to watch it, but I do follow it and catch the recaps now and then. I have traditionally been a NASCAR fan, but open wheel cars is just a different form of racing. I live in New England which is not open wheel friendly at all. I started by watching the stock cars and the supermods in Epping NH. The IRL ran at NHIS for a while and I went to one, and that was pretty cool. Open wheel racing needs to open their eyes up to young guys similar to Jeff Gordon, who dreamed of racing in open wheel but never got his chance. I think the IRL has nowhere to go but up. I've noticed the stands are getting more full every year.
I think anyone who is a racing fan needs to respect what these guys can do. 220 MPH 6-inches apart from eachother. Two wheels touch together and you are both in the wall. That is great stuff. Tremendous talent. |
