i listen to a lot of everything, like most people, but i know what i like when i hear it, and for the most part that tends to fall into the 'punk' category, though i hate to label it that way, because if i mentioned a list of bands as examples, there'd be 400 people telling me what is and isn't punk, which is emo, which is screamo, which is pop punk, which is just plain pop...
what it comes down to is that i listen to what i listen to because i like the sound of it. i like songs with quality lyrics, but i'd much prefer a stupid song with loud, fast and simple, punkish chords behind it over something like, say... fountains of wayne - good songs, lyrically, but nothing behind it, so i can't get into it.
