I can't say that I hate Whedon. In my opinion, Buffy and Angel were examples of excellent writing, casting and story development. That said, I wouldn't expect someone to deliver a series like either one of those today. They are both a product of their time.
I've only caught a few episodes of Firefly and no episodes of Dollhouse so I can't really discuss them.
