That's totally accurate. The only times I've been challenged are when I challenge myself, and then I work feverishly and steadily. Even then, I get the most done when working up against self-imposed deadlines, like the end of a weekend alone, or before a carshow I want to attend, and I'll work through the night without much pause. I've managed to coast through what others struggle to achieve. If I had been more focussed in the last decade, and acted on all of the entrepreneurial ideas and projects I've had, I'd have my PhD and a million bucks instead of a bachelors and bad credit.
