2002 Honda Accord: How prevalent are transmission problems?
I've been doing some reading on the 2002 Honda Accords and came across the following on the HowStuffWorks website:
Automatic transmission (1999, 2000, 2001, 2002): On V6 models, transmissions may fail due to lack of thread-locking compound on nut for low clutch. Honda extended the warranty on affected vehicles to seven years or 100,000 miles.
Does anyone know how prevalent this is? I found a well maintained 2002 Honda Accord EX V6, single owner, with 116,000 miles at my local dealer, and after test driving it was pleased to the point that I decided to buy it. The AutoCheck report is totally clean and received a score of 88 (with similar cars receiving a 76-87 score).
Now, as I wait to pick up the car in a few days, I am a bit concerned that I could be getting a problem car. Seeing that the car is over 100,000 miles, it's not likely to be covered by the extended warranty, either.
I'd appreciate any and all thoughts or comments on this if anyone has any, even if they aren't necessarily reassuring.
