I really enjoyed your story.
I would definitely read this to my students and discuss food groups, change, curiosity, etc. It has a lot of different ways to use it in a classroom.
I'm not an editor, so as for critiquing it, I'm not much help. However, did you have an age group in mind? The vocabulary you used makes me think that you were writing for 8-10 year olds.
