Better was the wrong word. Efficient and effective would be more appropriate.
The social sciences thing is complicated, sure, but there
are educated guesses. The more educated a guess, it's probable that the more reliable the guess is. It's not perfect (only maths are), but it's more effective and/or more efficient.
