I hold in my hand, my... um... wait. I hold in my OTHER hand the Windows XP Pro upgrade CD circa 2002. It is from my long-dead laptop.

I have no product key for this. Am I screwed? I think I am. I think I need to BUY the upgrade.

I also hold MS office XP Pro WITH the key. Now that the old machine is dead, can I install it on a new machine, or will M$ deny it (since it was registered a while back on the old machine)?

Before I plunk down $400 for a new laptop XP home edition, I want to know if I'm going to have to pay out the pooper for software I already own.
