Yes. As an example, 70% of the grain and cereal grown in the United States is fed to farmed animals. It takes 16 pounds of grain to produce 1 pound of edible animal flesh. Do the math.

Starvation isn't a food-production-capacity issue so much as it is an economic and political issue. We are not overpopulated in terms of food capacity; we are overpopulated when it comes to the lifestyles of the wealthy and the resources required to support them. Just wait until the rise of the middle classes in China and India if you want to see what I mean. WillRavel, if you aren't already invested in natural resources, it might be too late.
