He (and then I) learned very early on to expect ZERO rights when crossing a US border. Or any border, really. Doesn't matter which passport I'm carrying... customs agents at any border have the right to do almost anything they want. It's not fair, but there is no use in protesting. We go along with making as little fuss as possible, no matter what they do to us.
