i'd avoid worrying about the hug too much, in terms of style. think about how a creepy guy who hides in the bushes and masturbates while watching people at picnics, and don't do that. it really depends on the particular girl. the important thing is that however you hug her, be confident about it, and be genuinely affectionate. what you want is "that guy seems like he'd be fun to be around, and might be fun to have sex with," what you don't want is "that was fucking awkward."
now, when self-confidence fails, i like to let out a little poot just as i'm coming into the hug, which i then blame on her. it's a good combo move with having your hand be wet from a sweaty beer or washing your hands, and kind of rubbing that on the back of her neck, as you bring your arms up to mock-strangle her. saying something like 'you've already got my juice on your neck, so let's do it like they do on the discovery channel' and then humming the tune of that god-awful song usually brings them in too.
