Yes. It adds weight and complexity to replace a system that is already fully functional, while providing very little practical benefit. Safety concerns aside, it's just more shit to break.
I think it's definitely got a cool back to the future kind of vibe to it and I'd love to see a car with these, but I don't think I'd want to own a car with these.
